The way it’s going, in 20 years time, we’ll have ratings which would have meant Arkle would be running in the Hennessy from out of the handicap!

That’s not an unreasonable rating IF you assume that the third ran a little below its official mark.

Snoopy Loopy OR 157 RPR 170
    Tamarinbleu OR 167 btn 1/2l RPR 170
    Exotic Dancer OR 174 btn 2 3/4l RPR 167
    Cloudy Lane OR 158 btn 12 3/4l RPR 158

The assumption has been made that Exotic Dancer was a few pounds below his best and that Cloudy Lane ran to his best. It’s an opinion, and on the face of it not an unreasonable one.

If I was rating it I would probably have split the difference between the first and third and awarded that figure to the second, 166-166-164-154.

    How would others rate them?

Nothing wrong with the Kauto, Master Minded and Denman ratings but 170+ for Snoopy Loopy is a bit much surely?

It reads to me like an RPR accorded on a too-literal interpretation of what he beat (a Tamarinbleu who didn’t quite last home), and what he probably would have beaten (a below-par Kauto Star more intent on exacting a nation’s revenge on the portafences than clearing them), rather than what he achieved.

Snoopy Loopy’s rise this season has been heartening, and to an extent overdue, but even on Saturday’s performance he is no more a 170+ rated animal than I am a cheese mechanic from Dunbar.

A mighty performance in the Hennessy, if he takes his chance in it, might convince me otherwise, assuming last Saturday’s efforts haven’t left a mark.

I don’t think Snoopy Loopy would deserve much of a "+" on 160, let alone 170.

Given that Snoopy Loopy had race fitness on his side and couldn’t beat Exotic Dancer despite getting 15 lb from him at Aintree, I’d have Exotic Dancer more than ‘a few pounds’ below his best at Haydock.

BHA handicapper has raised Snoopy Loopy to 168, up 11lbs. He’s dropped Cloudy Lane by 2lbs to 156, the other placed horses and Kauto Star are unchanged.

I imagine he’ll be winning the Hennessy then if he’s 5 lb well in.

Regardless of how ‘well in’ Snoopy Loopy is for the Hennessy I’d be surprised if he could perform at the same level again within a week.

However, I hope he’s able to, if only because it would once again boost the stock of that fine summer contest the Perth Gold Cup, Snoopy Loopy was second this year and Tamarinbleu won it last year.

Agree, his performance in the Charlie Hall a week after Aintree would back that up.

Dont see why he shouldnt be rated 170+. In his last 3 races he’s beaten Kauto Star, Exotic Dancer and Voy Por Ustedes. Dont see what else he needs to do to justify that rating.

Slightly misleading Cav. Any horse that completed would have beaten Kauto Star on Saturday, Exotic Dancer ran way below form and SN was getting 16lb from Voy Por Ustedes (who is rated 173 himeslf) at Aintree.

He will deserve to be rated 170+ when he done something that merits it on the book, not when you can string together a nice sounding list of horses he has finished in front of…

The only surprising thing about this inflated RPR is that people are surprised by it.

Grasshopper , he speaks the truth , RPR are way out , if the handicapper is right then he is going to have to step up quite a lot fron now on

168 is darn high in my view

    cheers

I agree with davidjohnson ludicrous rating. I give Snoopy Loopy 161. Exotic Dancer ran below form and there is no way on this earth that Snoopy ran to 170 IMO.
