He’s looking good, and I’m sure he can’t wait to tee off against Ebdon
As he said, thank god it’s only a best of five!September 25, 2010 at 20:18 #319357Christ! It didn’t take you long there, Matthew!

Why not back Robertson at the available 7/4 to ensure a tidy result?

I can’t afford to mate, totally out of cash.

You bet £315 to win over £700 three days ago according to your thread in the DL&P section – you didn’t put it all on O’Sullivan, did you?
September 26, 2010 at 19:47 #319565No, the bet was placed before that day, a bit more than than the quoted amount though.
I’ve resigned myself to defeat now.
September 26, 2010 at 21:41 #319598Oh well, that’s cost me a few quid, no doubt I’ll back Ronnie in the UK and LOSE again, but take nothing away from Neil Robertson, class act and the better player tonight.
Night.
September 26, 2010 at 22:12 #319605the guy definitely has his demons but that is no excuse anymore.
I used to love the guy and i can only think of two sportsmen, Donald Bradman and possibly Phil Taylor, who can be counted as a comparable genius in their field, and that much better than not just their peers but anyone who has played their games.Lance Armstrong??
Saw the good and bad of O’Sullivan again tonight with a magical 70 odd break in taking his only frame, but then far too inconsistent and missing too many easy shots and not being let off the hook by Robertson.
Was complementary towards the victor in his interview afterwards (which I think he always is when he loses to a player he has respect for).
Rightfully number one at the moment is the Aussie though and will take the beating in the big tournaments this year IMO.
September 26, 2010 at 22:21 #319606As Ronnie would put it – he was cueing around corners tonight. I’ve been backing Robertson in various tournaments for the past two years or so, and lost a bit of interest in him just before the World champs…

I thought he was a little over gracious to be honest, with his assertion that Ropnnie was ‘still a cut above all of us’ – however true it may be.
September 27, 2010 at 10:43 #319636I love Ronnie as much as the next guy, but could never back him, because he doesn’t have the hunger, the drive to win. The fact that he doesn’t care if he wins or loses, speaks volumes.
September 27, 2010 at 14:58 #319692Ronnie O’Sullivan is the ultimate mood player. If he wants desperately to win, he invariably does. Last night, he looked as if he’d rather be out running.

I do however, agree with Neil Robertson’s assertion that O’Sullivan is still a cut above the rest – albeit talent wise. Hendry and possibly White (at their best )are the only ones who even come close to him in that department.
Don’t even go there with Alex Higgins. I saw Higgins play countless times over the years and he was too erratic, unpredictable and inconsistent to be compared with those others.
As Steve Davis ( whom I greatly admired ) rightly said: " it was so much easier to win the World Championship in my day – there are more good players around now and standards are so much higher. "
September 27, 2010 at 17:42 #319718O’Sullivan just doesn’t win often enough to justify all the plaudits. Priced up as favourite for every event he enters bookmakers must love him. Finding it tougher in the Premier League I suspect it will not be too long before he joins Hendry in the can’t win anything bracket.

Very gracious of you Matthew, well said.
I just don’t think Ronnie is a decent betting proporsition any more because we never know how much he wants to win.
The thing is, he keeps going on about his love for the sport and how he wants to remain in snooker when he retires, probably as a coach. How the hell is he going to coach youngsters to win when he hasn’t got the hunger himself?
It’s a strange one. I’m not sure Ronnie is pulling the wool over peoples eyes. Yes he is brilliant in one off matches but he doesn’t seem to have the consistency any more and he appears to get his ‘excuses’ for losing the tournament in well before he gets knocked out.
