I have seen some faux pas’s when it comes to advertised race distances, the race distances advertised from yesterday’s meeting at Sligo took the biscuit.

For example the 6f200y(7f) was run over 6f1110y and the 1m2f110y was run over 1m2f.

When I compiled the speed figures for Sligo using my altered distances, the figures looked right

You might ask how I came to this conclusion, simple mathematics…

I sent an email to Sligo racecourse this morning, what bothers me is, will anybody else pick up on this?

It things like this that explains why the Irish jockey club have no plans to re-measure their racecourse distances, they would become a laughing stock if they did.

    Mike.
