What should we expect if anything from this…
Sky get serious with the channel and start broadcasting in HD.
Sky take over the channel production instead of SIS, because lets face it the production on RUK is far superior to ATR.Thoughts?
March 26, 2017 at 22:00 #1294250Why is it Racing UK can have Cheltenham and Aintree and ATR can only have minor tracks!

That may change at the next contract renegotiation if Sky decide to flex their financial muscles.
RUK could be obliterated in one fell swoop.
March 27, 2017 at 11:06 #1294280The reason RUK have the major tracks is due to Jockey Club Racecourses having a shareholding in RUK/RMG.
But with Sky seeming to take a renewed interest in ATR soon to be Sky Sports Racing could be interesting if Sky make pitches to other tracks.
I cannot understand why a lot of tracks want to be with RUK with a subscriber base of only 50,000. Its paltry in TV terms.
March 27, 2017 at 14:34 #1294304Courses such as Stratford will only switch from ATR to RUK for one reason and that’s money. They are obviously getting paid more than they were from ATR so viewing figures won’t come into it. Isn’t that why the Open golf and formula 1 went to Sky from the beeb despite knowing that viewing figures would drop dramatically.
I don’t like this talk of ATR obliterating RUK or vice versa. We need two channels for the amount of racing there is.
March 27, 2017 at 14:39 #1294305Will this mean I won’t be able to watch replays for free on ATR in future?
March 28, 2017 at 17:02 #1294423I agree with the idea that there is a need for two racing stations. Besides, will ATR still do the nightly American and Australian racing? He also have Hong Kong at the weekend
March 28, 2017 at 17:28 #1294429Betting and gaming is a huge growth market. Skybet have upped their game over the past year or so and it would be interesting to see their figures.
If Sky threw everything at racing and was the only channel on which it was available – if they gave it their Football treatment in production values and promotion, it could make for very interesting times indeed.
March 28, 2017 at 22:19 #1294449Bury racing on Sky and it’s doomed. If people wont watch for free they damn sure wont be paying for it. Should add that the National and Derby are currently protected free to air.
Sky is great for the enthusiast as they can dedicate as much time and resource as they like to any sport. Not so great for growing interest, cricket being a prime example. Flogged to Sky right after the famous 2005 Ashes series.

I doubt any of it will be free if Sky buy into it. They’ll add the racing to the Sky Sports package and that’ll be the end of any free to air racing on satellite.
April 4, 2017 at 08:55 #1295212Potential issues here will ATR channel disappear and the racing be moved to one of the Sky Sport channels thus meaning it could become part of a paid for package?
The course tv rights have all just been re-signed which means Sky cannot get anymore courses for a few years even if they wanted to.
Now that Sky have the majority shareholding ARC could pack their bags and move to RUK if they get a good deal and Sky could say horse racing is no longer viable.

Err considering the Jockey Club own Cheltenham and Aintree and Racing UK why would they give their best courses away to the opposition, the reason ATR have all the minor tracks is because the Jockey Club own all the big ones, except Ascot.
Also a lot the racecourses fell out with Sky in 2004 when the original ATR failed and Sky tried to blackmail them into staying with the channel when RUK launched and their is still a lot of bad feeling out there especially from some of the Yorkshire courses.
