the channel will still be free to Virgin customers one tweet is stating Sky are not planning to outbid itv for the terrestrial rights, if so that would leave itv probably the only interested party for the rights in 2020.
December 5, 2018 at 21:06 #1388128Ooooh look, 88 Hong Kong fixtures.
Still persisting with hourly “news bulletins” throughout the morning, virtually nothing changes on these, ever!
At least we get the channel in HD, can anyone remember when ATR announced that they were “HD ready”? Wasn’t it 2007/2008? Shocking that it’s taken so long.
Don’t see any radical changes, let’s hope the production improves and there are a few less clangers.
Don’t worry, if they are still going to provide regular “Review” slots, I’ll be starting a new thread on the subject to replace the ATR Racing Review one, which will end on 31st December.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
December 5, 2018 at 23:51 #1388139What came of their open invitation to potential new presenters?
I take it that those who applied were far too knowledgeable/ interesting/ good looking to get a job on the channel.
December 6, 2018 at 04:28 #1388152Has ATR been moved, or removed, on the Sky platform.
Attempted to access Channel 415 last night and the message came up – Channel unavailable?
December 6, 2018 at 09:25 #1388159I don’t mind the foreign racing as long as it isn’t interfering with the UK meetings.
If French racing is to take off in even a small way the punter needs a free archive. That should be a first priority. At the moment you can view US racing on the ATR but although better than nothing as a form guide it is far from comprehensive.
Although I have my doubts I hope the venture succeeds because the last thing the viewer wants is clashes. There is no magic button to press on Virgin Media. The best result would be more meetings leaving RUK producing a more even split. It is obvious that screen time for the lesser meetings is going to be (severely) reduced on RUK.
December 6, 2018 at 09:36 #1388160Sky have said they will have a presenter at every French meeting so it is clear they intend to treat French Racing in the same way as Irish Racing, so they will clearly treat it as an equal to the British tracks and any clashes are likely to end up with split screens, they have paid for the rights they are not going to just put it to one side if there are other meetings.

I, for one, could not give a monkeys. They must pay ATR a fortune to get these plugs.
December 6, 2018 at 11:28 #1388176I was under the impression that the on-track presence was only confirmed for UK meetings. Hard to believe they will do similar for every french meeting.
If RUK are going in the opposite direction they should be able to get rid of an enormous number of hangers on. You don’t need more than two in a studio. Sometimes when they shelter in the box (even when it isn’t raining) at the likes of Carlisle I wonder why the waste money sending anyone at all. So many are just guessing about paddock inspection it probably isn’t worth bothering anyway. I can read the market from my armchair better than Nevison does so hopefully he will very quickly become surplus to requirements.

I’ve spent ages googling and can’t find an answer.
December 27, 2018 at 19:02 #1390419Yes it will continue as ATR does now, that’s what Virgin and SSR tell us.
I would imagine that some time in the future the channel number will change from 535 to run sequentially with the other Sky Sports channels, maybe when the standard definition channels are phased out.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
December 27, 2018 at 19:07 #1390420Losing ATR/Sky is an utter disaster for Irish racing; so greedy and short-sighted

This has all the info.
December 31, 2018 at 20:01 #1390933It’s disappointing that they have retained so many of the old guard, that was always one of ATR’s major failings, the standard of their team. Despite this though, and despite everything pointing to this becoming a TV Backwater for racing, I just have a feeling that they could thrive.
HD is too little, too late, but it’s a start.
Ascot is a big step in the right direction, but I hope that they can get more from the French Racing. I’m lucky enough to go to several French meetings a year, and it’s always a pleasure, with more often than not, a lively atmosphere. This rarely translates to the small screen, but I hope they throw everything at it.
It’s certainly an interesting year ahead and I wish them luck. I hope that they don’t need it.
January 1, 2019 at 13:37 #1390961No HD on Virgin, that’s an own goal straight off.
January 1, 2019 at 13:41 #1390964According to another site HD launches on January 8th along with Nowtv
January 1, 2019 at 13:51 #1390970It would have been better to have it in place from the off, but I suppose a weeks delay isn’t the end of the world.
