Terrible news. At least you’re at peace now Sir Henry and no longer suffering. RIP great man.
June 11, 2013 at 15:13 #442492Terrible terrible news, but in some sense I’m happy that he went off on the highest of all possible highs a trainer could ever wish for. I can’t imagine any better trainer Frankel could have gone to. The greatest racehorse for the greatest trainer. RIP Sir Henry.

Daily Telegraph

One of flat racing’s all-time greats.
June 11, 2013 at 15:40 #442496The kind of news we expected but always dreaded.
Find it strange but moving that a dying genius guided a divine horse named after a fine trainer who passed away. Like two bright wings either side of a glowing halo.
God bless Sir Henry.

June 11, 2013 at 16:17 #442503A sad day in racing. He’ll be missed at Ascot this year, that’s for sure.
June 11, 2013 at 16:37 #442505Sad News, Trained the greatest horse I have ever laid eyes on and probably the greatest horse i’ll ever see. Deserves the utmost respect for all he has done for Racing.
RIP.
June 11, 2013 at 16:51 #442509I’ve just been up and placed a bunch of roses at the gates of Warren Place. as I wrote on the card, not only a great man, but a nice man. Says it all for me.
God bless Sir Henry.
June 11, 2013 at 16:59 #442511Very moving interview with Tom Queally on RUK from Salisbury earlier. The closest person to the tragic events I have seen interviewed today, and hard to hold back the tears really.
June 11, 2013 at 17:41 #442518So very sad, if not exactly unexpected.
RIP Sir Henry.June 11, 2013 at 17:51 #442519A true master of his craft, extremely sad.
Poignantly for me, my Dad passed away on this day 18 years ago, which so happens to be my birthday. So thanks to my Dad for introducing me to the turf back in the 60`s and Sir Henry sustaining my interest ever since I saw Wollow win the Greenham at Newbury.
I will now remember Sir Henry along with my dear old dad on every future birthday.
June 11, 2013 at 18:17 #442521The fact that Sir Henry has been poorly for some time now makes the news of his passing not only easier to bear (although I still had tears in my eyes when I heard) but also made me relieved that the great man’s suffering is finally at an end.
Sir Henry Cecil WAS a genius, unlike the vast majority upon whom that particular label is bestowed. He just knew when a horse was ailing or how best to improve one, mentally as well as physically. We are lucky to have seen such a wonderful trainer and, by all accounts, a thoroughly good man grace the particular stage upon which we choose to focus.
Rest in peace, Sir Henry.

Absolutely gutted.
Was going to have a bet just now but when I read the news my urge was instantly dissipated, the pocket change I was looking to win all seems a bit meaningless now.
RIP to a real Legend.
