Been playing poker for a while now , texas holdem , but find it hard to get to finals of multi tourneys , whereas in single events you can be far more tactical
any views ??

January 8, 2006 at 11:59 #86947i have to say that my style definitely suits single tourneys better, especially 6 seaters where i make most of my profit.
in mtt’s when i do make the final table i tend to press the self destruct button early on, blowing out with just a measley profit for 2hrs+ work. very frustrating.
January 8, 2006 at 12:47 #86948I do tend to stick to STT now, but I prefer to play 5 seater tables now as opposed to the marathon 10 seater variation.
I find myself having to pre-occupy myself whist playing the early stages of a big STT. Otherwise I end up making rash decisions trying to ‘get involved’ in the game.
Good stuff all the same.
January 9, 2006 at 07:47 #869495 & 6 player Sit And Gos are definitely the way to go in my opinion. You can usually spot the weakest player at the table quite quickly and if you can try and isolate him, then it always helps.
It has to be said, you can’t beat getting to the final table of a MTT but whether playing them regulalry increases profitability is open to debate.
January 9, 2006 at 10:21 #86950I love the multi tornaments, the low stakes re-buys as you get so many peaople tilting early you just pick up their chips off when they are trying to get lucky then tightenen up after the re-buy level. My style is tight & agrresive but when you don’t get the top hands the blinds soon catch up with you! Had a run of just missing the prize money before Christmas by a few places.
After this I tried to be more agrresive early doors with pot size re-raises pre-flop but there are a lot of knobs about who go all in at the start on J-10 at the moment (not including speed or turbo rounds obviously) & I’m finding it tough to play anything other than top strenght cards pre-flop if your not in the last betting positition as it’s too expensive to call from early positions with these idiots about.
The only one really profitable area for me is the $0.5/1 real money tables as the blinds are small enough to warrant restraint and only bet when a significant hand is dealt but the bad-beats I’ve had recently even this is fustrating!
January 9, 2006 at 13:30 #86951it happened again!!!!
i’m chip leader at a £20 mtt, on the final table.
first five get payouts, and i blow up again in 7th place.
i swear i’m sticking to stt’s from now on.

Be careful not to get known as only playing big pairs/high cards when playing cash.
If you can spot people who only play the above it can be very profitable to play any two cards against them. Call a pre flop raise, then if you hit you are very likely to get all their money – my experience of .05/£1 games suggests many players find it very hard to put down an overpair. If not its an easy fold.
January 9, 2006 at 14:59 #86954I’m a percentage man also marko and find it easy to bin a set of pocket kings if an ace flops as I’m used to getting beat with them.
I do tend to slow play on real money tables any high strenght cards and will play cards like A8 if I’m late in the betting and no one has raised a large amount. I take this route at the moment as I was sick of calling a few dollars with a middle hand only to be re-raised by the late caller.
On the subject of what you play, do any of you play heads-up 1×1 as I’m a huge fan of this and have a 76% win ration at present and really love the nature of this game as it brings out my aggressive side which is good when I immediately play a speed STT but not so good for a MTT.
