Henderson just said Shishkin has passed away due to broken leg. He got cast in his stable and broke his hind leg

April 28, 2024 at 22:19 #1692196Horrible news.
I was privileged to see Shishkin win at Aintree last year. A great horse who put in some wonderful performances over the last few seasons
Even being in it’s stable can’t guarantee a horses safety.
April 28, 2024 at 22:19 #1692197Made me do a double take this what incredible sad news.
The things I want most in life are the things that I can't win.
April 28, 2024 at 22:36 #1692198What an awful sad week it’s been … and now Shishkin … cast in his box … heartbreaking for all who cared for him and his numerous fans … 💔 😢
April 28, 2024 at 22:59 #1692200Absolutely gutted to hear this. RIP Shishkin
April 28, 2024 at 23:11 #1692202Oh no. I can’t believe I’m seeing his name here. How awful.
April 28, 2024 at 23:27 #1692204Very sad to learn this news. I am so sorry for his connections.
He was a great favourite of mine. He did me a good turn when he won the Supreme and I enjoyed watching him win at Aintree last year.
He was a character and you never quite knew what you were going to get with him but he was a high class horse. His big race record is impressive: Supreme, Arkle, Clarence House, Ascot Chase, Aintree Bowl. Such a pity he did not get a chance to run in the Gold Cup and was arguably unlucky in the King George.
Farewell Shishkin and thank you for so many racing memories.
April 28, 2024 at 23:28 #1692205Just dreadful news.
As is often the case with horses who appear to find it all very easy early in their careers, I became fonder of Shishkin once he had his ups and downs and showed some quirks. But he was a star throughout his career, and showed top-class form time and again.
What an awful end to a very difficult season for the Henderson stable.
RIP Shishkin
April 28, 2024 at 23:36 #1692207Damn, just seen the headline on the RP website and quite frankly I couldn’t wrap my head around this shocking news for several moments.
Thoughts with all his connections, especially the groom.
Thanks for the memories, RIP Shishkin
April 29, 2024 at 00:06 #1692209Whaaaat? This is just too bad to be true. Only a few hours ago I was delighted to read that Nicky had him ready for the GDC clash. No matter how much people might dislike a trainer, he and his staff didn’t deserve this. Can a season get any worse?
Poor Shishkin, what a tragic loss. He was such a high class performer over the years and I also liked his attitude. Just thinking about the PU in the 2022 CC or when he refused to race at Ascot earlier in the season. Surely a huge loss for all involved.
May he rest in peace
April 29, 2024 at 01:08 #1692210Rest in piece Shishkin :(
April 29, 2024 at 05:29 #1692211Sad news for everyone concerned. Been a top class racehorse and gone too soon. RIP.
April 29, 2024 at 07:14 #1692212Such a shock to read this, and a desperately sad end to a pretty miserable season for Nicky and his team. RIP Shishkin.
April 29, 2024 at 07:45 #1692214The worst news. How fragile these heroes are
April 29, 2024 at 07:59 #1692215Oh no I can’t believe I”m reading this horrible news..
We have these beautiful souls for such a short time it must have been devastating to find him like that.
Rest in peace beautiful Shiskin 💔 you will never be forgotten. 🥲So sad for Nicky Henderson, his staff and all connections. This is the worst end to a tough season for the yard and the entire jumps season.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 29, 2024 at 08:36 #1692221Just seen this, couldn’t believe was seeing his name here.
Absolutely tragic and shocking news. What a devastating loss, heartfelt condolences to all his connections, especially those who cared for him daily.
RIP beautiful boy.April 29, 2024 at 08:54 #1692224You can tell how popular and well known he was because its made the BBC Sports news and that very rarely happens. RIP Shishkin, thank you for the memories.
