I don’t mind them having it but only because it gives me a weekend away from following racing. literally just switch off for a week and start looking forward to York.

I think it’s been better over the last few years, some decent races with a bit of quality and up and comers. This year however is total dog sh1t. One of the more exciting horses running in the 2 miler is currently fav but he’s only a reserve. Howzat happened? At least we have a smattering of racing elsewhere, some grade 1’s in the US and group 1 action Sunday in France.

Almost agree TheTinMan. Irritated that Haydock puts on a decent card (and don’t get me started on the Curragh!). In two minds as to whether to go out and do something worthwhile or stay in and watch the racing.

So we have two teams made up of female jockeys but only one is a Ladies Team. We have two teams made up of male jockeys but none are a Mens Team.

To paraphrase PG Wodehouse ‘the period between Goodwood and York is such an awkward time’

I don’t know why so many ‘serious turfistes’ get so exercised about the Shergar Cup. One meeting, once a year that doesn’t conform to the usual racing model. So what, let those who turn out for a silly-season beano at Ascot enjoy themselves

Serious old me regards it as nonsense as I do that other aberrant event currently taking place, The Hundred. There’s a clever ruse I’ve developed over the years that I’d encourage others to try: I don’t watch it :good:

Must rush, gotta catch-up on the Breaking and Artistic Swimming at the Olympics

Maybe men should allowed to be on the Ladies Team, like in the Olympics? ;-)

I think it’s time to ditch the ladies team and split the GB & Ireland team up.

    GB
    Ire
    Eur
    RoW

Teams to have at least one female jockey.

Homer this has been my argument in this for the last two seasons, why are they making a separate female team when the sport wants to promote them as equals. We should not be separating them they are jockeys on the same level as the men and the dispersal of boys and girls should be irrelevant. The concept is antiquated and not fit for purpose.

You could say it shows how unique the sport of Horse Racing is as men and women alike can compete together without there being any unfair advantage to gender. I see what you mean, it kind of works both ways.
I would get rid of one of the GB, Europe, ROW teams depending on who’s available each year and just have it as a mens team.

The RP didn’t seem to be bothered much about the event. Shortly after Hayley won the final race of the competition the RP updated the standings after the fifth race. It took them well over one hour to publish the winners of both categories.

But, what else can you expect from them? That’s how they work nowadays.
