Ken, you’re the man! I may reconsider. Rob, I have tried to improve my punctuation to standards that you approve of. Marks out of ten?
May 1, 2009 at 15:06 #224790For you latest post, ten marks!
Regarding your previous point:
‘i have noted a poor level of debate with the increase of the mares profile being shown. i thought this was an open forum to air views’
I have discussed the increase of the mare’s profile with you both in open forum and in private messages. You aired a view, I disagreed with it and we exchanged views on it. Assuming I am included in the all encompassing statement then I object to the comment that there has been a ‘poor level of debate’ on the subject. Far from that, I believe that I have put forward some strong reasons supporting my argument. Some may consider that my arguments are b*****ks, but I do like to think that they are well researched and reasoned b*****ks.

May 1, 2009 at 15:28 #224791By the same token, Geneosull, you have only to see how long Robnorth has been around and how many posts he’s written over the years to know that this guy certainly knows what time of day it is. I wouldn’t dream of trifling with him. I was always brought up to respect my elders and look where that’s got me….
May 1, 2009 at 15:41 #224794thank you, 10 out of 100 not too shabby. i found your earlier points interesting yet my point was shouldn’t racing be seen to be ‘keeping its house in order’ this seemed to take a back seat. The debate was then bogged down by emotional responses, some evoked by my initial post which i have taken on board. The focus shifted to the particulars of this horse and so I replied with stats that countered some of the opinions made. It was at this stage, when weight of argument should prevail, that comments became personal. I left myself open to some criticism and have duly taken it yet pedestals are notoriously difficult to perch on and, alas, how the mighty have fallen.

Other than a minor aside about punctuation, about which I have often had a bee in my bonnet, I don’t consider that any remarks was particularly personal, neither within open forum or in personal message exchanges.
Regarding racing ‘keeping its house in order’, I’d say the sport has made huge jumps forward in terms of policing itself in the past twenty years. That’s not to say there can’t still be improvements, but one only has to take a look at the BHA website under the ‘Stewards Enquiries’ and ‘Why They Ran Badly’ section to note the number of matters that the stewards deal with on a day to day basis. With increased number of cameras and staff tasked with watching races for any signs of wrong-doing then some may pull a fast one, and no doubt it goes on, but it doesn’t happen half as often as some might believe.
Returning to the matter of Shekan Star,
rory
and I made clear our reasons why the mare may have shown improved form. You may not agree with us, but I find it hard to believe that many wouldn’t find that our arguments have at least some credence.

Ken’ trifled with me’ sufficiently often in his early days on this forum to gain my respect. Although I don’t always agree with him, his opinions generally have a sound base.
Just as long as you let me have my chewed arm back I might forgive you eventually……..
