Having seen my local team Bristol City thrash Sheffield United at the weekend they definitely look like a team to avoid betting on in win markets, awful defence no organisation and a clueless manager – I just can’t see Robson being their by Christmas. I haven’t seen a so called top team defned so deep as a unit since Forest came looking for a draw in Bristol last year.

Spare a thought for me. I had to put up with him for the best part of 6 years as a Boro fan. Most of us knew within 18 months that he was no good. I could tell you many stories about this guy that would beggar belief.
For example, an ex Boro player, bought his own pub in a nearby town. Leading up to the grand opening, there were posters everywhere saying that Boro Manager Bryan Robson would be officially opening the pub. As it was a Friday before a game, I assumed he was just coming along to open the pub, have a quick drink, and then toddle off. How wrong could I have been.
Not only did Bryan Robson turn up, but most of his staff and at least 5 senior Boro players turned up. They officially opened the pub, and then proceeded to get bladdered, the lot of them. The next day, Boro got beat 6-0 at home to Arsenal
October 9, 2007 at 08:51 #118635Oh and then there was the time that Boro signed Paul Merson, a recovering alcoholic and gambler.
‘Allegedly’, Gazza, being the prankster he is, filled his locker with Newcastle Brown Ale and a Racing Post on Merson’s first day of training

Merson spent just over a year at the Riverside, and then left, citing a huge drinking and gambling culture at the club as one of his reasons for leaving

October 9, 2007 at 11:02 #118658I wonder what part the drinking culture played in his getting so many injuries? How well did he look after his body during his playing career?
An inspirational player but a mumbling mediocre manager who’s team selection at Albion so often seemed to be an afterthought.
And don’t talk to me about Merson. Many rumours at Walsall about what went on there most of which probably should not be repeated
October 9, 2007 at 11:13 #118663I can imagine Andrew.
Regarding Captain Marvel, he certainly liked a drink – nothing wrong with that being a manager, but taking your bloody players on the piss is out of order

I dread tot think what he got up to as a player, especially when this looking after yourself cultrue wasn’t really that big in the 80’s.
