Not a great couple of days for John Gosden with Shalaa having injured his pelvis and will now miss the first half of the season.
Foundation beaten yesterday and out in the Derby betting means two of his best prospects have had setbacks.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

April 15, 2016 at 19:12 #1242510A shame that, at least I took my bet in shop so the ticket can be used for other purposes, expensive piece of toilet paper at twenty quid but that’s the chance you take. Did you take any of the 8’s available from last year, Steve.?
Gosden at 4/5 for the trainers title makes little appeal this year, especially with Shalaa now out. No Golden Horn either this year who took a big chunk of the prize money. I wonder what Joni thinks of Hugo Palmer at 125’s. Personally I think O’Brien at 2/1 will go close. Hannon at 9/1 will mop up a lot of juvenile money but doesn’t have the big hitters.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
April 15, 2016 at 19:28 #1242516Gutted. I’ve already got my ticket for Discover Ascot raceday later this month and Shalaa’s appearance would have made the day extra special.

That was an expensive one for me, as I did three ante post for Royal Ascot in singles and a treble, Solow 7/2, Free Eagle 6/1 and Limato 6/1, which would have been nice.
I did La Rioja at 14/1 as well this year, so obviously with Shalaa out she has one less to worry about.
The shape of the race is likely to change as horses like Besharah, Lumiere and Buratino establish whether or not they stay beyond sprinting distances but I am not dropping to my knees worrying about Acapulco, who didn’t last 5f in the Nunthorpe, and seems unlikely to me to be at her peak over 6f at Newmarket. 12/1 La Rioja now that Shalaa is out may look value depending how things pan out and if she makes a winning re-appearance.
ps I have done Beacon Rock at 16/1 for the St Leger. Idaho looked the better horse in the Ballysax recently but I feel Beacon Rock is going to come into his own once he goes beyond a mile and a half and he managed to perform better than the more fancied Cook Islands on the day. Beacon Rock looks the value with the more fancied Derby horses likely to stay at the shorter trips and the Leger usually panning out as a contest between horses rated b and b- rather than a’s.

April 16, 2016 at 00:19 #1242565Bad luck Steve, Nathan and all who have taken the price on Shalaa. I was really looking forward to seeing him out this year and this is dreadful news. Let’s hope he comes back sound after this.
Just a mention with regards to the Classics .. On Thursday before racing (before the heavens opened) Buratino and Lumiere did a breeze up down the Rowley Mile.
I wouldn’t worry too much about Buratino staying beyond sprinting distance Steve, he did a breeze up down the Rowley Mile before racing on Craven Stakes Day (before the heavens opened) and he blew the other horse away. I’m not sure Mark Johnston wanted the horse to look as impressive as he did but the jockey had no option and he flew.
Lumiere went down after him and did the job well enough but felt she wasn’t let loose like Buratino.
I’ve already lost on Shalaa as I backed him Ante Post to win the 2000 Guineas before Gosden decided he would go the Commonwealth route so now I might as well throw some money at Buratino having seen that breeze up run I think he could do it…Jac
