Shisha Threesixty has been declared for the 2.50 at Sedgefield tomorrow, a 2m 4f 0-100 novices’ handicap hurdle. Forecast is for the temperature to remain just above freezing overnight so hopefully the meeting will go ahead.
To be honest the ground may be on the soft side, though it is drying out, and the trip is an unknown. However, it’s been a struggle to get a run so the reasoning from Lucinda Russell is that we might as well have a go while the chance is there. The race is a dreadful contest, so if ever there was a chance of at least a place then it will be this race.
If this race doesn’t work out positively then the chances are that the current lease will be terminated and Paul Brierley will look out for a new horse to run in the new year.

December 12, 2012 at 12:11 #422587Shisha ran 5th of 9 yesterday, in touch to the straight but then outpaced. Grant Cockburn reported that he is a flat horse who is not that keen on hurdling and doesn’t have a cut at his jumps.
It would seem unlikely that Shisha Threesixty will continue hurdling, though Paul Brierley is polling members to find their views on deciding between continuing hurdling, trying the all-weather or ending the lease and running another horse next year. I suggested having a go at Wolverhampton or Southwell, since the gelding ran creditably on the artificial surface at Dundalk, though the ultimate decision will be in the hands of Paul along with Lucinda Russell.
