So pleased to hear that she is improving and a little stronger.
William Haggas cautious with his updates as I imagine he is still extremely concerned for her well being.Keep those positive thoughts flying around they are working the magic and get well soon Sea Of Class.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 22, 2019 at 15:56 #1449104Sadly reading reports that she has passed away
Charles Darwin to conquer the World
July 22, 2019 at 16:04 #1449106Yes; just heard. What a horrible end for her. Why do these beautiful creatures suffer from the abomination that is colic? RIP
July 22, 2019 at 16:10 #1449108Terrible news after a glimmer of hope recently. A bright star that would have shone even brighter.
July 22, 2019 at 16:21 #1449110Was hoping no news was good news and the longer this went on the better chance she had. Very sad this was not the case. RIP Sea OF Class
July 22, 2019 at 16:44 #1449114Such a pity; what a beautiful quality mare in looks as well as talent. RTE replayed her Irish Oaks win in the buildup to this year’s race and it was lovely to watch. A bad colic is a hateful thing.
July 22, 2019 at 16:54 #1449116It seems it was more than just colic. From the Racing post
Speaking on Monday, Haggas said: “The reason for colic surgery on Sea Of Class in the first place was to remove an abdominal mass sitting between the spleen and liver which had intertwined with her gut. That mass was removed and some of the gut taken out.
“However the mass turned out to be a malignant tumour known as a lymphoma. Her surgeon Richard Payne and specialist Celia Marr warned us that lymphoma’s can be aggressive and so it proved.
“Having made sure and steady progress under the excellent veterinary team at Rossdale’s she took a turn for the worse at 4.30am this morning and a subsequent scan revealed another tumour the size of an orange. Despite regular scans during her convalescence, this was the first sign of an abnormality.“She was quiet and uncomfortable today – and quite weak and the decision to put her to sleep was then taken unanimously by her team of experts, Maureen and I.
“Owner Mrs Tsui has been in full support of all decisions taken and she, her family and advisors are all devastated. For all of us here, we mourn the loss of the best filly we had anything to do with but will cherish the memories for ever.”July 22, 2019 at 18:52 #1449120Very sad news, poor girl. She never got the chance to show us her full potential, what we did see at the end of last season was hugely exciting, and we were all savouring the prospect of her meeting Enable again on the track as a stronger, maybe wiser four year old. Even if she would never have raced again, she had already done enough to earn herself a long and happy life in the paddocks, this is such an awful way for her story to end.
July 22, 2019 at 19:01 #1449122Such a beautiful filly I can’t believe she has gone and what a fight for her life she put up knowing the full story behind her illness..brave brave girl.
Will never forget getting to meet her last year her grace and beauty just melted your heart and she let us all stroke her and take pictures, ever inquisitive her neck stretched over the box to nuzzle up for photos..
Her owners did all they could to save her and this must be the day they had all been dreading, thoughts with all at William Haggas’s yard
I hope her name lives on in naming a race in her memory she would have made such a wonderful broodmare a great loss to all of us who followed her career she just didn’t deserve this.
devastated by the news…RIP brave girl.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 22, 2019 at 20:59 #1449132I thought it must have been something than colic going on for so long. Very sad that she had a tumour.
July 22, 2019 at 23:02 #1449137R.I.P Sea of Class, taken to soon.
All comers, all ground, all beaten
July 23, 2019 at 00:45 #1449146Devastating news and such a terrible loss. I think Jac’s idea of a race to carry her
name would be a fitting tribute. She was special and had the potential to be an absolute
superstar. In hindsight I wonder how well she was when she ran in the Prince Of Wales.
RIP Sea Of Class, you were well named.July 23, 2019 at 01:00 #1449147Ah, Sea Of Class was such a grand filly; Timeform rated her as winning the Arc.
“Sea of Class was, without much doubt, the best horse in the Arc field on the day and lost because she simply had too much ground to make up”,
Here’s her Racehorses Of 2018 write up.

RIP Sea Of Class.
Value Is EverythingJuly 24, 2019 at 04:23 #1449199Very saddened to hear of her passing. Devastating for all concerned. It’s a terrible disease and when coolmore with all their money and the best treatment available couldn’t save the great st Nicholas abbey then it shows just how hard it is to save the horse. R I P.
July 24, 2019 at 22:01 #1449230So sorry to hear this; more familiar with human medicine, but tumours at this young age must be v rare. That she was able to race so recently is also poignant
