Obviously a lot depends on whether Ultima winner, Corach Rambler goes. He’s clearly got more improvement in him, and this should suit, but I’d just be a little surprised if he went.
Also taking in The Ultima was Fantastikas, and he looked dangerous heading for home, but eventually finished just out the places. Not a horse who’d grabbed me too much, but I quite liked that run, and his profile also appeals here, and I don’t see any reason why the trip won’t suit. He’s high on the shortlist. Stablemate Checkitout hasn’t been as good since his run at Aintree, but he caught the eye that day, and this looks ideal.
Less impressive in The Ultima was reigning champ Vintage Clouds. He was very poor, but as much as I could see him being retired, conversely, I could see him getting a good few pounds shaved off him too. He’s got three decent efforts in this to his name already, and I would definitely be with him EW if he went. I’d be very interested to see what ark he gets.
Another in the Hemmings silks is the Alan King trained Major Dundee. I really liked his win at Bangor earlier in the season. He ran at the meeting last year (disappointed), but I think he’s a realist contender on this years form, and I think he’s overpriced. Stablemate Fidux at 40’s, is possibly underpriced on this seasons form, but I keep going back to him. There’s a good horse in there, and quite possible that he’s still got a prize like this in him. The trip could maybe unlock that improvement, and I’m very tempted at 40’s.
If you told me after last years race that The Ferry Master would he available at 20’s, off 128, I’d have snapped your hand off, but he’s just been very frustrating. I know he’s better than we’ve seen, but he’s got to start showing it. Hill Sixteen was my selection at Kelsonlsdt time, and he ran very well in defeat. Assuming he goes, very high on the shortlist. Possibly ground dependent, but he’s got a proper marathon in him, and this is his level. Very interesting for Aintree next year, and I just wonder if that’s his long term goal. Sandy Thomson will definitely have primed one of them at the very least, but as much as I know I’ll no doubt cover them on the day, I couldn’t have a go Antepost.
Respectable run from Hewick at Uttoxeter today, and with realistic prospects of the ground drying up here in the next fortnight, I couldn’t rule him out, though obviously a big ask as well after those efforts.
The one that’ll cause me a headache is Domaine De L’Isle. He carried my cash in The Eider, and he was too bad to be true. He’s miles better than that, and he’s now below his last winning mark. Could be a dark horse for a yard that’s landed this before.
Perhaps not as strong a set of entries as previous years, but at the same time, competitive enough looking, and no Antepost from me yet, though the early prices draw me towards Domaine De L’Isle, Fidux, Major Dundee, and Vintage Clouds.
Shortlist
Domaine De L’Isle 40’s
Fantastikas 25’s
Fidux 40’s
Hill Sixteen 25’s
Major Dundee 40’s
The Ferry Master 20’s
Vintage Clouds 33’s
March 20, 2022 at 10:30 #1589090Kitty’s Light 13-1 ew 5 places
March 21, 2022 at 13:15 #1589207I’m still convinced Kitty’s Light is the next Earth Summit and his run at Kempton last time out was much more like it. Missed the 16’s available, but I’m happy to have the 14’s.
March 24, 2022 at 10:08 #1589541My ew 2 for the race….
Kitty’s Light 13-1. 5 places
Win My Wings 13-1. 5 placesMarch 24, 2022 at 10:18 #1589544Why is this before Aintree? Seems wrong traditionally.
BUY THE SUN
March 24, 2022 at 11:07 #1589548It’s because of how the Easter dates are this year they couldn’t do it week after as then it’s the Irish national weekend and clashes

March 27, 2022 at 18:23 #1590018Lucinda Russell’s confirmed that Corach Rambler will not be running in the Scottish National.
However, Russell said on Sunday: “Corach Rambler will probably go for the bet365 Gold Cup. The Scottish National is a bit close to Cheltenham.”March 28, 2022 at 10:26 #1590069Stormy Judge for me, may lump on nice and early.
March 28, 2022 at 10:59 #1590072Took the 20s on Stormy Judge yday; Fahey seems quite bullish; the horse has been aimed at this race.
March 28, 2022 at 17:09 #1590105Latest update on Fantastikas:
Ian Robinson, founder of Imperial Racing, said: “We wanted rain and realistically his participation will depend on conditions – we’re having a look at both races and he’s potentially well handicapped for the Scottish National.
“It was probably more the better ground than anything that did for him at Cheltenham, but he still ran a good race.
“We’ll see where we are with the ground on Thursday and make a call then. He does prefer slower ground and, although he handles better ground, it would give us a decision to make. He’d definitely be running if there was plenty of rain, but that doesn’t look likely now.”
March 28, 2022 at 19:53 #1590118Had Win My Wings and Kitty’s Light on antepost. Added stormy judge last night after reading article in racing post website

March 28, 2022 at 22:05 #1590130I was really disappointed that the wolf was taken out of the ultima a couple of weeks ago but on reflection it may of been a stroke of genius from Olly Murphy. In both races this season all he’s appeared to do is stay on, the less emphasis on jumping at speed can only be a good thing so I’ve had a tickle on him at 16’s.
March 28, 2022 at 23:16 #1590134Just added Enrilo at 16s and
Major Dundee at 25s. Bet365 still have Dundee at 25s all the other bookies are down to 14s, 16sMarch 29, 2022 at 14:27 #1590224Enrilo and Cool Mix for me.
