Straidahanna, Alvarado, Heathfield and Tour Des Champs are my four against the field.
April 16, 2016 at 12:39 #1242657This looks as hard as last week’s big race.
Alvarado must have a decent shout e/w at 40s?
I like a lot of them. Straidnahanna has Cook on board, so can not be ruled out. But you could make a case for most of them tbf.
April 16, 2016 at 12:46 #1242659Yes Highland Lodge should be on the shortlist
I know that horses carrying over 11 stones don’t have a great record here, but even so I’m finding it hard to get away from Measureofmydreams.
It is surely significant that Mullins is only sending one contender given he’s chasing the title and the firepower at his disposal.
I know this stat has to be overcome at some stage but just so you know … Mullins hasn’t won a handicap chase in Britain since hedgehunter won the grand national.
April 16, 2016 at 13:19 #1242667Have backed the McManus-Martin ‘good thing’, he is definitely well handicapped but seems hard to catch right.
April 16, 2016 at 14:54 #1242673Pineau de Re for me

Yes but records are there to be broken… lot of money for it now clear favourite. Certainly has the sort of breeding that wins nationals
April 16, 2016 at 15:01 #1242677Had a look at SUN CLOUD who won the North Yorkshire National 2 years
ago. He’s an in and out horse but if anywhere near his form of old he
might be worth consideration. He was beaten in 4th by ROYAL KNIGHT in
the Durham National, but he was giving him 4lbs. He opposes this time
getting 7lbs, and a further 5lbs for Jamie Hamilton’s claim. He’s
carrying no weight and 66/1 is tempting enough for me to have a punt.April 16, 2016 at 15:26 #1242679Well shut my mouth!!! What a pleasant surprise that was Gord.
He really did do me proud, despite my reservations, and I just about need sedated lol
April 16, 2016 at 15:33 #1242681Congratulations to Raymo, I think he is the only one that was on VICENTE.
I hope you made the bookies payI thought you might be sweating Bobby, having deserted your pal. I thought he
was going to win, but he ran a cracking race anyway in 2nd.I was quite happy with ROYALE KNIGHT, he ran a great race, just couldn’t
carry it off when hitting the front 2 out. 4th place ew is fine by me.The race lived up to expectations
April 16, 2016 at 15:35 #1242683Great shout from Quell Farce with Alvarado at the 40’s, well done Quelle.
April 16, 2016 at 16:16 #1242694Well done Raymo
April 16, 2016 at 21:38 #1242723Thanks Joe.
I am just waiting for the poor run now!! LOL
April 16, 2016 at 21:39 #1242724I must say I am truly amazed at Seeyouatmidnight !!
I never thought he stayed three miles let alone four!!
April 16, 2016 at 21:41 #1242725And just as an afterthought I think Pineau De rai was going to be involved until he came down!!
I think the race might have been a bit different had Pineau and Top Wood both not ended up on the floor.
April 17, 2016 at 07:26 #1242746Well done raymo, and VTC. Another one here who discarded SYAM because he wouldn’t stay Backed Vyta Du Roc for a place (4 places only) and Royale Knight in a WIN Lucky 15 so was a bit gutted I didn’t collect at least something.
April 17, 2016 at 10:02 #1242770Thanks Homer, still can’t believe it myself.
Seeyouatmidnight would have been a massive return for me if he had won, but I was very pleased to get a few quid back from him anyway.
Top Wood would have went very close, I’m sure of that, and him bringing down Folsom Blue, well that just put the cherry on it.
Unlucky with your bets, though you might get a chance for a few back from Royale, as I could see them letting him take his chance at Sandown next week.
April 17, 2016 at 10:18 #1242776It’s uncanny how often when one of the horses you’ve backed falls it takes out another. D’oh!
I did OK out of the race (unlike the big one the week before!) having done Seeyouatmidnight, Vyta du Roc and Midnight Prayer all ew with 5 places. Did think I was on the winner 3 out till I caught sight of Vicente swinging along. SYAM would obvs have been second if not a messy jump at the last and tbh Alvarado was near enough if good enough turning in.
Thought Pineau might have got involved if not unshipping.
And sad to lose Golden Chieftain, such an honest horse.
