If Golden Chieftain wins I might be looking for a tall tree and a short rope!!!

Make sure the rope is long enough for two Raymo. I’m still getting treatment for post traumatic
    stress for that one

I’d have been all over Golden Chieftain if it wasn’t for Powell Jr deserting him for Royale Knight – who has no chance – and the replacement jock is fecking useless.

If the ground improves (unlikely) I’ll be on A Good Skin who’s trainer is in cracking form and the horse is 3/3 in April, showing improvement each year at spring time.

If the ground stays soft then Milansbar has very few doubts so would be my choice.

Any reason why you think he needs it good? Just wondering because i’m thinking of backing him as the run in the Kim Muir was nice and looks a thorough stayer, has won a point to point and a race on soft so why the doubt? Is Ayr known for being really tacky ground or something or did his class just get him through against inferior animals in those soft wins?

Another one i like is Shotgun Paddy, regularly placed in these staying chases off marks higher than this and has Noel Fehily booked so i’m hoping for a nice run.

I might have a saver on Heathfield, looks like he’s been plotted up for something for a while and although i doubt this was the original plan it might well be the plan now and Martin’s really hitting form after a torrid winner and wants to make the most of it,heck he even let one of his win a maiden hurdle today

Good luck with Golden Chieftain if you go for him Wilson. Raymo and I had to have a lie down in a darkened
room (not together you understand) to get over that last run. I wouldn’t be too put off with by Tom O’Brien
on him, three wins and three seconds in the past 2 weeks, I’d be more concerned how the horse bears up after
two falls in his last two runs. If it hasn’t left a mark he’s not without a chance.

Hope your wrong about Royale Knight, personally I think he fits the bill quite nicely.

Powell junior didn’t desert him. Tizzard just gets whatever jockey he feels like. Could be Johnson today, scudamore tomorrow, Brennan the next day, o brien occasionally, Powell at the low grade tracks.

Since his son retired and Powell started riding him he’s ridden him in the last 18 consecutive races, including when he won the festival handicap on him dispelling a theory about low grade tracks. Only reason he jocks him off now is if he or the owners blame him for the recent falls.

Plus he was jocked up to ride Royale Knight at the 5 day dec stage and O’Brien wasn’t committed for Golden Chieftain until yesterday. Looks clear to me that Powell agreed to ride the Newland horse before a jock was found for Tizzard’s.

The latter as a) He’s a Presenting, b) Paddy Brennan after his Ludlow win last April (soft ground): “It’s probably as soft as A Good Skin wants out there but we have just got away with it. He is likely to have another run this spring but we will wait for faster conditions”, c) his worst run coming when well beaten in the New Years day handicap at Cheltenham when he was expected to put in a better performance based on price (vying for 2nd favorite behind Village Vic) and d) there’d be very slight stamina concerns and soft ground will only help expose those.

Thanks, didnt know about Brennan voicing those concerns, horse only really caught my attention in the Kim Muir so was only going on a quick scan of the formbook. The way he stayed on that day i’d fancy him to stay but them extra few furlongs on tough ground can nreally sort the men from the boys.

I’m all over Jetstream Jack in the opening Novice hurdle, he’s well regarded in the yard and although he’s 5lb behind Welsh Shadow on official ratings i’m certain he’s a lot better than a 135 animal. The winter was spent riding him to learn how to race and get a mark, went into the Festival with a lovely mark and travelled a dream out the back but couldn’t get into it with all the fallers and trouble in front and was hampered a couple of times and not knocked about to try finish closer. Fully expect him to beat Welsh Shadow who’s showed his hand in my opinion. If JJ doesn’t win i mightn’t be backing any horse in the Scottish Grand National at all

Think I’ve backed the winner of this race twice in the last 30 years though Fran (Run For Free and Merigo) so I wouldn’t hold too much sway in my opinion

All the money coming for Golden Chieftain today has forced me to revert to my original feeling and make him my selection so have just backed him e/w (5 places) despite my huge misgivings about the jockey. I genuinely feel unclean as I’ve avoided him ever since the clown went on a mile from home on notorious rogue Colour Squadron at Newton Abbot a couple of years back.

Peeing down all day at Ayr today and this race is going to take some getting tomorrow so if he stands up you’d be pretty confident he’ll be there or thereabouts. May have a saver on Milansbar at a bigger price in case I’m o’Briened again.

Get it back from Definitely Red at 3:45 (11/4). Should have too much stamina for Double Shuffle on this rain softened ground and Full Shift is too inconsistent.

I’m looking for something to go along with Midnight Prayer & Top Wood, and it’s not been easy. Looks a very decent renewal to me, and I’m being greedy, and adding Folsom Blue & Straidnahana.

Folsom Blue, on his Irish National runs, from a trainer in form, looks far too big at 20’s, he’s sure to like these conditions. He’s on nice weight, and the jockey takes a few handy pounds off. The more I look at him, the more I like him, and very happy with 20’s.

I could see Straidnahana surprising a few, based on what I’ve seen from him this year, and I like to give runners from the yard a second look. I’m sure there’s more to come from him, and he’s worth a few quid each way. I’m hoping to get a few of those quid on above the 40’s.

Good luck with your extra 2 Bobby. I had had a good look at Folsom Blue, he’s running off a feather
weight and is really interesting. He’s a tricky ride, seems to lose concentration at points in his
races and although he hasn’t won since the Grand National trial at Punchestown 2 years ago, if he is
in a racing mood he definitely is no 20/1 shot. I’m tempted myself.

I only had ROYALE KNIGHT bet until yesterday, as my other strong fancy, FINE RIGHTLY has edged right
up the weights with the defections of those at the top. I really liked his chance, it’s just that this
is a race that rarely throws up a winner carrying near top weight. In fact if I was a stats man I wouldn’t
be betting anything over 11st. ROYALE KNIGHT just gets under that, but in case the Scottish National starts
to mimic the Grand National, I can’t not have a few quid on ROYALE KNIGHT at 28/1 5 places.

I have added a third, GOLDEN CHIEFTAN, for no other reason than I would, as Nathan indicated above, be close
to committing harikiri if he romps in. He cost me a small fortune with his last fence howler last time out.
He’s all the rage in the markets, although I have to admit I’m simply covering my a**e, and wouldn’t have picked
    him out otherwise.

As you said Bob, this is a decent renewal of the race and a case could be made for plenty. I hope we
do well, but i’m really looking forward to it regardless :good:

    Highland Lodge anyone?

If Jimmy Moffatt has kept him sweet since his Aintree win (and the bullish pre-National talk hints he has), then there aren’t many better-handicapped horses in the race. It’s hard to forgive all those years of woofiness so quickly but I’ll be hoping he earns his moment of Wayward Prince style redemption.

Royale Knight and Goodtoknow were my next best with their form working out nicely.

Yes Highland Lodge should be on the shortlist

I know that horses carrying over 11 stones don’t have a great record here, but even so I’m finding it hard to get away from Measureofmydreams.

It is surely significant that Mullins is only sending one contender given he’s chasing the title and the firepower at his disposal.

I still think Milborough is the forgotten horse!! Has won an Eider!! and 40/1 is massive for one you know stays four miles!!

Leave him out at your peril!!

The locals are very keen on Highland Lodge,as is the stable, there is no one better than prepping a horse
for a race than Jimmy Moffat, this one will be cherry ripe.

Midnight Prayer EW for me ,Alan King is in better form now.As an 11 year old i think this is his last chance for a big pot..Good luck with your bets.

If you go to back a certainty always buy a return ticket.
