Still just about the Gold Cup fav despite the poor show VF. Some out there are saying connections know exactly what what they are doing and are getting the horse readied to peak for March and that it’s a disgrace as they want to see horses like him doing their best more than once a year.
December 29, 2025 at 04:20 #1748964Even if it’s a myth he was beaten in the KG , why does he reverse the form , also why was he not at the festival last year , GDC will be Townsend ride

GW was being campaigned as a 2 miler last season and disappointed at the DRF over that trip so there wasn’t any point going Champion Chase. Been running splendid this season so going to Cheltenham next run looks the plan this time around. He’s also a Cheltenham Festival winner over fences despite the vibe he is better right handed, whereas TJM has never run over fences at Cheltenham before. Noone really knows which one will be more suited by what could be a well run race over 3 miles 2 and a half on a stiff Cheltenham track as neither horse has tried it, and only a couple of nostrils between them at Kempton when GW had that hard prep race the time before.
December 29, 2025 at 06:14 #1748969He was beaten by fractions
Lots of different things can come into play as to why he will or won’t reverse form, which was virtually a dead heat by the way… Going, distance, track, pace of the race, tactics etcCharles Darwin to conquer the World
December 29, 2025 at 14:01 #1748981Agree with Nathan and Mike there. It was “heads up – heads down stuff” in the KG with Townend becoming unbalanced inside the final 100 yards. And it was the fastest ever run KG, why shouldn’t he be a genuine GC contender? I’m not sure about GDC’s next run, he surely needs another outing before Cheltenham, but the Irish Gold Cup might take too much out of him. 3m G1 chases do take their toll, especially on 10-year olds.
Quite sure that Townend would rather lean towards GW at the moment.
December 29, 2025 at 17:23 #1749007There’s no chance hes riding GW , neither he or Willie are already that stupid
December 29, 2025 at 18:24 #1749015Willie Mullins said yesterday when questioned over jockey rides in Gold cup, and even he said there no chance he (Townsend) is getting off GDC

December 29, 2025 at 19:20 #1749025Townend will definitely switch if Galopin gets stuffed at the DRF.
December 29, 2025 at 20:19 #1749031Perhaps Mullins wants his fake amateur son on board the stable’s best chance at Cheltenham, to add to his Grand National victory.
December 29, 2025 at 20:53 #1749033In an interview today sounds like going straight to Gold Cup

December 29, 2025 at 21:10 #1749036Haven’t seen the interview today but if he were going straight to the Gold Cup, I’d definitely bet him. Yesterday Willie said he was going to the Irish equivalent again at the DRF though.
If he runs at the DRF, he’s got no chance at Cheltenham. Just not enough time for a 10yo to recover. It’ll be a tough task for a 10yo even when going there fresher. They should’ve gotten their 3 Gold Cups in the bag last season. No way would Iknowthewayurthinkin have beaten Galopin had he skipped the DRF last season.
If he goes DRF, he wins there but struggles at Cheltenham. If he goes straight to Cheltenham, the younger horses may still have too much for him up the hill and then you’ve missed out on a huge prize at Leopardstown also. Not an easy decision.

I don’t agree. The winner was a worthy one. And I backed Galopin.
December 29, 2025 at 21:32 #1749039He was a worthy one and I had him backed at a big price but that wasn’t the same Galopin that had won the Savills earlier in the season.
Those 3 G1’s before March really took it out of him last year. It’s remarkable he was able to bounce back at Punchestown so well.
December 29, 2025 at 21:38 #1749040Sorry found link to interview he said return here for the Cheltenham Gold Cup. So not sure if running at DRF before as it wasn’t mentioned. Sounds like I Am Maximus could also run with Gaelic Warrior

December 29, 2025 at 21:42 #1749042Looking back at the last two seasons, in fact the last three, I tend to think that his Christmas performances were a bit better than the ones at the DRF. He was more convincing around this time of the year than he was five weeks later. Somehow I think bypassing the DRF is the more logical decision. And until Cheltenham strange things can happen to horses.
December 29, 2025 at 22:02 #1749045Townsend isn’t getting off Galopin , Jesus are people actually thinking yesterday was a bad run , even if he isn’t the horse he was he’s still better than GW
December 29, 2025 at 22:21 #1749050Yesterday’s version of GDC looked like 10-12 lbs. inferior compared to the 2023 and 2024 models. At least half of the field wasn’t even trying, otherwise why would you land a gamble from 33/1 into 7/1 in such a quality race?
The winner is open to more improvement, but the race should be treated with caution.
