Of those near the head of the market, Conflated and L’Homme Presse appeal most. I’ve bet Conflated for Cross Country and Aintree, and round here again, I think he can run a big race. L’Homme Presse was my main fancy going into last season, for The Gold Cup, snd providing all well with him, he should be a player this year. I’m less convinced he’ll go here than Conflated.
As well as Conflated, there are four other horses I’ve bet for future races, who are all of some sort of interest here. Banbridge, who I’ve bet for Ryanair, is worth a crack at this, and there’s at least a chance he’ll get his ground. Same applies to Hewick, and though I’ve bet him for Kempton, there was always a good chance he’d go here. This looks a good race for him. I’ve bet Capodanno and Stattler for Gold Cup, and wouldn’t surprise me to see them go well here. I don’t think they’ve got to bottom of Capodanno yet, while I took a lot from the run of Stattler yesterday.
I do like Janidil, but I’m slightly less enthusiastic about him in this, and I’d rather, right now, look at the two rank outsiders, Classic Getaway, and Coko Beach. Who knows what improvement Mullins has got out of Classic Getaway this winter, snd Coko Beach, who’s now in the 160’s, is only 8, and from connections who go well in this, would be a genuine interest, rather than a mere sentimental selection. I could see him go well round here.
Not possible to have a bet right now, but this would be early shortlist…
Banbridge
Conflated
Coko Beach
Hewick
Stattler
I’ll definitely bet Coko Beach, and decide on rest later. I’d say even at 7’s, that that’s too big for Conflated
November 29, 2023 at 22:00 #1672211Classic Getaway is 50s which is a steal if he can make the most of his ability. Had to have a go.
November 30, 2023 at 05:20 #1672223From a GN point of view im hoping Stattler has nice pop around at the back
November 30, 2023 at 16:29 #1672265You’ve got yourself a bet there Green. That’s not as good as he is. I’m on your coattail at 20-1, which I would suggest is still generous
December 4, 2023 at 16:12 #1672693I agree. I’d be very interested in him too. Great bet that Greenasgrass.
The other two who make some appeal at this stage are A Plus Tard and Appreciate It
December 17, 2023 at 22:28 #1674266Been looking at a few bigger ones here.
Not completely ruling out A Plus Tard, but fellow Cheveley horse, Classic Getaway looks the pick of them, and certainly well found by Grass.
I’m still hoping Stattler goes for Aintree, but back on song, I think he’d actually go well here, while I’m hoping Coko Beach takes his chance here in February.
I’ve bet Hewick for Kempton, but this just looks tailor made for him too. I do like an Antepost in this though, and sensible head on, that 10’s for Conflated looks wrong, as does the 33’s for Banbridge, and I’ll almost certainly bet them if they go (and possibly earlier) but went for Churchstonewarrior 150’s EW
He’s the outsider for a reason, but I think 150’s is just too big. He unseated early doors on seasonal re-appearance, but not too big a leap of faith to think he’s improved on last year, where he ran to a decent standard.
Conflated at 10’s my actual main fancy, and Banbridge now looks the best outsider, but Churchstonewarrior the first bet
Banbridge

December 19, 2023 at 20:23 #1674386Galopin Des Champs a surprise possible runner.
December 21, 2023 at 11:42 #1674539I Am Maximus for me 16-1 ew. I’ve just watched his last run, and I liked it enough to back him here
December 21, 2023 at 19:07 #1674598Gerri Colombe a confirmed runner.
December 21, 2023 at 22:23 #1674621First 3 in the betting for the gold cup taking each other on
Excellent
December 22, 2023 at 00:38 #1674627This Gerri comment from Elliott is an inditement of how the ‘stars’ are campaigned now.
“He’s been in great form since Down Royal and it was always our intention to run him at Christmas before freshening him up for the Gold Cup.
So he needs almost 3 months of freshening up after just two runs that will be over a month apart……..really. He ran 5 times last season as a novice with his best run being his last run at Aintree.
As of today Kempton is Good to Soft (Good in places) with a 60/40 split with a potential for a further 2-5mm of rain – Leopardstown is currently Yielding, Good to Yielding in places on the chase course with a potential 8-10mm of rain forecast. But apparently due to the drying ground at Kempton they will head to Leopardstown instead!
Ignoring the fact that two of his wins last year (including the Aintree one) was on good to soft ground, I assume that connections will be happy to ‘risk’ Gerri at Cheltenham if they have ground conditions similar to what it will be at Kempton?
December 26, 2023 at 15:54 #1675060Janidil giving me a real headache here, and I’m fairly certain I’ll buckle at that price. Not necessarily because I fancy him, but more that I couldn’t possibly miss that. Probably best to mark it down as sentimental
As it is, Conflated at 14’s is the second choice. I think that’s a mad price, and have to take it…………added 18’s
Edited
Churchstonewarrior 150’s EW/125 EW4
Conflated 18’s
Janidil 66’sDecember 27, 2023 at 07:48 #1675131Really looking forward to seeing this race. Looks an absolute cracker.
December 27, 2023 at 09:24 #1675134Appreciate it 20s 4 places seems a good play in this. Has a good strike rate and consistent type. Probably won’t win but a decent ew play
December 27, 2023 at 09:57 #1675144I’d like to see a more attacking ride on galopin des champs this time
The work to settle him has been almost too effective
Get him up with the pace, actually ask him for jumps instead of letting him fiddle over them, and see what happens.
December 27, 2023 at 10:47 #1675161Fastorslow is a very confident win selection for me in this. I actually would have him as the favourite in this, so his current odds of 4-1 really appeals to me.
I had to pick an outsider here in A plus Tard. I don’t think that it takes a big leap of faith with him to return to form, and I’ve taken 16-1

You may get your wish ;o)
