I would be happy to take on the running of it, my business is gambling websites so I have the time and resources to hopefully carry on the good work.
July 15, 2006 at 16:44 #96231I’d like to echo what Rory posted, I too would be glad to help out with the continuation if I could be of use, I did moderate on here before to some extent and whilst I don’t have the money or the technical skills to contribute on a big scale, if I can be of use then I’d be glad to chip in some time and effort. Frankly it’s the least I can do, this site has had a big influence on my life in one way or another and I now have happy memories that I wouldn’t have had were it not for the dedication, hard work and vision of the man who created this site and the people who post and work on it.
July 15, 2006 at 18:07 #96232I would be happy to help in any way and contribute too
Have always taken more from the site than put in so its least I can do :)
July 15, 2006 at 23:30 #96234That’s the BIGGEST surprise I’ve ever heard in my entire life.<br>
July 15, 2006 at 23:57 #96235How do you mean Rich???
Do you mean suprise that Ian Davies has made the comment or suprise that the forum has a value?
I for one would totally agree that this forum has a value and that if LRM should choose to pass it on for free it should be to the stalwarts of the forum who would have no interest in any financial gain.
I would hate to see it go to anyone whose primary interest was for personal gain
July 16, 2006 at 01:39 #96236Well said Jas and thanks for posting that last sentence, I only hope LRM is ok and she won’t have to accept any money, Craig already knocked the 10 grand back first time around, hopefully the same will happen again.
It looks like "the log" wants to buy all of us and all of the internet.
Personally I’d love Bob Rolf to run the forum if he has the time but that may not be possible, I’d have done it myself but I’m concentrating a bit more on my website these days and it already takes up a lot of my spare time but a mate of mine might be interested in running the forum, I’ll have a word with him later today to see if he’s interested, if he decides against it then I’m sure LRM will do the right thing.
<br>*LRM, please email me and we’ll have a chat about it.
July 16, 2006 at 07:05 #96238”LRM’s late husband once put a price tag of £10,000 on TRF and, while I’d say that might be a bit unrealistic, I hope LRM, for whom money may be tight right now, doesn’t just give it away without at least being aware what her late husband thought it was worth. Existing TRF forumites running it as a sort of commune would be the optimum solution, but they should at least offer to pay her a fair market price for it and then let her decide whether she wants to give it away or not.”
I’m not an Ian Davies sympathiser/crony, but that seems a fair enough comment to me.
I know people who took over (non-racing) forums and they paid money for them.
The questions here are:
(1) What’s a "fair market price"?
(2) Would anyone be willing to pay it?
(3) And what are the options if no-one’s willing to pay it? For example, could LRM lease the forum to an existing member? Or could she retain ownership and keep all the income while forumites run it? Would those be workable long-term solutions or would we simply see the forum dwindle down to nothing?
(though these probably aren’t questions that should be answered publicly)

July 16, 2006 at 14:06 #96239I think that if money is the issue then trf should be put on Ebay or a specialist website auction site.
I think however bought it would carry on with the same formula, I know I would if I obtained it, why change a wining formula.
Personally I would love love to run it, and  not for the reasons insinuated earlier.
Horse racing is my passion which is why I waste so much money on crap racehorses!!

July 16, 2006 at 15:20 #96241Big Tony seems to be Ian’s nominated puppet (or puppy) these days! Don’t let him use you BT.
Good to see that there are people interested in continuing the forum. If you are interested please ignore anything and everything Ian Davies has to say on the subject as:
a) he will be as uninformed on this issue as he is on most others<br>and b) it is absolutely and categorically none of his business
Finally, I take the greatest exception to the Basingstoke based berk making ill-informed, small minded, patronising and possibly hurtful comments regarding LRM’s financial situation. What a weasel (please substitute any other six letter word beiginning with a ‘w’ if you wish) he truly is.
Sorry, rant over.
July 16, 2006 at 15:51 #96245Well as I have already stated…..I either hope that LRM gets a good true value for the site or it is ran by the regulars.
The only scenario that would be dissapointing is if someone took the site on the cheap under false pretences. (which for the record I do not for one minute think Ian Davies would do).

July 16, 2006 at 16:11 #96246This is getting embarrassing, LRM has not even mentioned buying or selling this forum…..instead Ian D (With absolutely no basis) has thrown the selling of the forum into the pot which helps to turn the spotlight on him again. You’d wonder what he would need with this forum considering his other forums (em) success….
July 16, 2006 at 16:30 #96247Tony, are you Davies’ bitch?
<br>Here’s a little quote I saved to disk after Craig banned Davies from the forum (and rightly so)…
<br>"To be honest, as my friends know, I’d planned to leave TRF for some time now.
There was a time when I thought it had great potential and was ready to do everything I could to help promote it – it’s no coincidence that certain members of the media (former colleagues and friends of mine) have referred to it in the past year or two.
But the chronic lack of enterprise from its owner – who consistently failed to follow up the leads I gave him on a plate – and his (IMO) increasingly poor moderation of it had long since disillusioned me.
More importantly, I want to be part of a predominately BETTING forum, and TRF just didn’t have that profile.
So, when matters came to a head, I purposely gave its owner no option but to ban me, thus enabling me to leave in a brief blaze of infamy, evidently leaving a succession of threads in my wake.
Punter’s Paradise is the way forward – we got a favourable mention in Net Prophet, thanks to forums and betting legend Richard Hills is God who we’re lucky to have as a member here, in the Racing Post this week and, in time, I’ll be working to achieve more of the same via my own network of media contacts.
What might once have been TRF’s will now be PP’s – that’s life in the big city." :o
<br>Nothing further to add at this present time m’lord ;)
July 16, 2006 at 16:33 #96248I’m in complete agreement with Ian here.
It is important that LRM should be made aware of (if she didn’t already know) the value that her husband had put on TRF.
Craig may well have left his wife in a safe financial position, that is no business of ours, but it would still be wrong to allow someone to take advantage of the situation.

July 16, 2006 at 16:36 #96249Seems all ID haters are coming out of the woodwork with their saved staements etc
<br>How sad and childish
July 16, 2006 at 16:38 #96250Agree Seabird
July 16, 2006 at 16:39 #96251Agreed
The thread is titled save theracingforum
Lets stick to the point and not get personal:angry:
July 16, 2006 at 16:41 #96252Empty, behave yourself, it’s not childish, it has to be said to let the members know what we are dealing with here.
<br>And coming out of the woodwork? doubt it, I’ve been a member on here longer than the majority. Don’t forget I was online the day Craig was building the forum as was a guy called Jay Torbitt.
At the end of the day it’s LRM’s decision and I’ll go along with whatever she decides to do.
