This horse to the best of my knowledge has 7 previous runs, all over hurdles. How come he can run in a flat handicap at Wolverhampton this afternoon?
April 20, 2010 at 13:03 #29132713 runs (3 wins) on Flat in Scandinavia, according to Racing Post.
April 20, 2010 at 13:05 #291328Has had 12 previous runs on the flat in Norway mostly at Ovrevoll Racecourse.
As this is a 45-65 handicap it looks like the handicapper has gone down the middle and allocated him a rating of 55.
Have to agree, that this is the first time I have seen a horse rated without previous runs on the flat in this country
April 20, 2010 at 13:05 #291329He is a Norwegian import Paul and has raced and won over there, Phil Smith is all over scandinavian race form obviously
April 20, 2010 at 14:04 #291333He’s an interesting one. Bred by the Wittekindshof stud near Paderborn in Germany, but apparently never raced in his homeland as he was sold at the Baden-Baden yearling sales. If I remember correctly, he fetched an absolute fortune (200,000 Euros??) due to the fact he was related to so many winners – you often see the blue colours with a white W of the Wittekindshof Stud on many horses beginning with the word ‘Salon’.
Salontyre (confusingly, he was also apparently registered as ‘Salontire’) ran for Rune Haugen in Norway, but like most Norwegian trainers, he campaigned the horse in neighbouring Sweden and Denmark as well. Personally, if I’d seen breeding like this on a horse, I would say he was good enough to win the German Derby, but it just doesn’t seem to have worked out for him. His form in Scandinavia wasn’t mush to write about, but it will be interesting to see how he does on his first start on the flat in the UK.
