With Sheikh Mohammed opening his wallet and buying every Dubawi Yearling in the sales got me thinking £2.6 million for one theirs more to this than them buying the stock. Do they secretly own or part own the broodmares/Studs so there actually buying there own yearlings back? Tax reasons maybe ?
i doubt very much i’m far from the truth here.

SilkOctober 6, 2016 at 12:30 #1265788I’m hardly an expert on sales (or breeding for that matter) but is there possibly a rule where every yearling has to be put up for auction, regardless who it is owned/bred by?
I could be talking nonsense of course, although suggesting that Sheikh Mo is doing it for tax reasons seems a bit far fetched.

No, that isn’t the case. The yearlings who go through the sales ring are predominantly those bred by commercial breeders (who will have paid to have their mares covered by Dubawi etc). Coolmore, Darley, Shadwell and all the other big breeding operations will have plenty of home-breds who are bred in house and never go through the ring.
Coolmore and Godolphin tend to support their own stallions at the sales I guess partially to keep their commercial value high, and also if they think there are particular individuals who would add quality to their racing and/or breeding operations. There has been a trend for those two organisations not to purchase the progeny of each other’s stallions, although some might say this has been to their detriment (especially for Godolphin not having any Galileos).

I can assure you there is no such rule.
A few years back Darley had an incentive for breeders, witch meant that offspring had to go trough a sales ring to benefit from those incentives.I believe the Sheikh is doing pretty much the same as Ballydoyle, supporting their Sires and wanting the best offspring they (the Sires) can produce for future breeding and moneyspinning.
