One of my very favorite racehorses, broke down and had to be euthanized after fracturing two sesamoids. The race was a sort of match race between him and my other favorite hard-knocker Caixa Eletronica, I was so looking forward to it. Saginaw loved to win more than any horse I’ve seen. He was claimed for $30,000 last spring and won 10 of 14 starts that year. Was undefeated this year. Won 21 of 41 starts lifetime, would’ve become a millionaire had he won this race. This really breaks my heart.

August 30, 2013 at 23:35 #449915So sorry Miss Woodford, it’s hard to take when any horse breaks down fatally injured but when it is one that is so special to your heart it is even harder to bare.
I cried for weeks when George Washington died he was the sweetest horse ever and I know how you are feeling.
RIP Saginaw
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 31, 2013 at 11:21 #449945Hi Miss Woodford – I didn’t know this horse but have just been finding out about him because of your posting. Sounds like a horse who so deserved a good retirement and I’m so sorry for your loss. I know he wasn’t yours, but sometimes it hurts as though he was. I feel for you.
Also upsetting to read some of the comments regarding the vet and connections on your second link. I’m hoping the people who’ve commented are wrong.
Best wishes.
