I have a hunch that Different Gravy will be a different gravy in this race, worth a small bet @ 25/1
April 8, 2017 at 08:59 #1295964I’ve backed him E/W too- remember when he was the next big thing? And Supasundae to win.
April 8, 2017 at 09:53 #1295985Supasundae to win for me too, should find a little improvement and the trainer continues in fine form. I considered three others. Yanworth should be winning this nicely but was so disappointing in the CH which should have suited better than Kempton & Wincanton. Won on seasonal debut and the Kingwell when not 100% fit according to trainer so I’m beginning to wonder if Alan King overtrained for Chelt and/or is struggling to understand his charge. Neptune run last season was a little disappointing too. Does the horse go off the boil late season, particularly this year, through winning gamely when not fully fit? At 2/1 have to oppose. That brought me to Cole Harden who has the next best form but I couldn’t envisage in my mind him leading and hanging on, just feel something with upside and younger legs will grab him late. That might be Ptit Zig, likes Good and goes well fresh – storming E/W price – but his three run Autumn campaign was below form and disappointing so has he perhaps gone past best? Supasundae is the up and comer with solid form at a reasonable price.
April 8, 2017 at 14:06 #1296074I agree GM that Ptit Zig could do better here, but I’m quite keen on Nicholl’s
other horse AUX PTIT SOINS. He looked decent enough at Kelso, although not the
hardest of races, but bar some sloppy jumping he would have gone close at Haydock
last time out. He will have be be a bit cleaner at his hurdles, but he was running
on best at the end of that race over just short of 3m, I think the additional furlong
and a bit should be to his benefit and the ground will be fine. 20/1 seems generous to
me.April 8, 2017 at 14:07 #1296075I wanted to take Yanworth on at 7/4 but just couldn’t convince myself on anything else.
There is just the chance Yanworth could outclass this field and it’s not that long ago he was a confident fancy for the Champion Hurdle.
Odds of 5/2 are enough to make Yanworth the pick here in my opinion. It might look a big price in the aftermath. There is a question mark but the opposition are a level below him if he runs to 90% of his best in my mind.
My other pick today is Finians Oscar, he was one of my main bets at Cheltenham but met with a bruised foot that led to missing the Neptune. His form can be picked at but he’s never really had a race and remains with any amount of potential. For me anything he did at 2 miles was a bonus. The trainer said the horse likes good ground and the 2 and a half miles should be ideal for him.
4.20 Aintree Yanworth 5/2
2.25 Aintree Finians Oscar 7/2
These two were my picks today in singles and a double.
Good luck.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
April 8, 2017 at 17:49 #1296108Nice double Steve! Be great to see Yanworth over fences.
April 8, 2017 at 18:48 #1296116Well done with your double Steve

I had them both in Vtc’s Ten To Follow Competition so had to back them.
I thought they would go off much shorter odds. Both ran really good races.

Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 8, 2017 at 20:07 #1296131Well done Steve! Supasundae ran as I hoped, Yanworth did show he can retain his form throughout a season and King hasn’t lost the plot with him. However, Yanworth didn’t win nicely or outclass them – Geraghty had to knock seven bells of hell out of him – so I still feel an air of disappointment about the horse compared to the wow factor of his Jan 2016 Cheltenham win.
April 9, 2017 at 01:50 #1296155Thanks all.
It was a good day for me. I had that double, then one out of two at Leopardstown and one of my ante-posts won the Grand National despite my late concern about the ground.
My one negative moment was watching Rekindling win the Ballysax. I had backed him on his second start after he was second to Capri on debut. He ran out a rewarding winner for me that day but the next time he ran he was an embarrassment for me as I napped him at 25/1 on another forum, figuring he could send out trainer David Wachman on a high as an each-way value. He was stone last of the 13 runners that day.
I took a look at him last night at 25/1 but just couldn’t make the case after his last tame effort. He went out today and won at 16/1. Never mind, can’t complain with the other winners on a good day.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
