nightmare when you dont get a run for your money TAPK, horrible.
February 28, 2017 at 13:15 #1289318That is a bitter pill Tapk, I had bet him myself and though maybe not £400 down myself I was hopeful of some kind of resurrection from him
February 28, 2017 at 16:25 #1289332Very kind words chaps but my saying has always been “If you want the price to pay you have to pay the price” Quite an original line from me that.Anyway Black Hercules is the sort of horse who will pop up at a double figure price at some point I’m sure, so its only money loaned.
February 28, 2017 at 17:41 #1289338Hard lines with your bet TAPK.

watched the race on the inside of the track last year when he won the JLT.. I had bet Bristol de mai which was just starting to wane when the fellow next to us started going mad shouting black hercules home. turns out it was a vet who had treated the horse for up to a year before the festival, said it had some problems which usually meant the horse would struggle to overcome.. maybe last year was its time
February 28, 2017 at 18:10 #1289346I’m surprised Un de Sceaux is 4/1 for this. He’s clearly the best horse in the race, almost certain to run, and has the benefit of some horses that might have opposed him going to the Gold Cup in the light of Thistlecrack’s injury. It looks like he will have to run round for about 5 minutes instead of the 4 minutes required for a 2 mile race, but is this really a big issue given his greater maturity and past winning in France over intermediate distance?
My guess is he could go off at around 2/1 on the day, or less if the field is small. In the past he has been odds on in similar circumstances.
Anyone worried he could be a late substitute for Douvan in the Champion Chase can hedge by backing UDS NRNB in that race.
He might be the best horse on figures but how accurate are those figures? Personally, I think he is one of the lays of the meeting and Empire Of Dirt will make him look very, very slow. On goodish ground he could be a massive drifter.
Am sitting pretty at the moment, but we all know that can change by off time.
Taken 6/1 UDS to win any race at Cheltenham. Ignored 7/1 for the Ryanair due to the fact could end up in the Champion Chase if something happened to Douvan. Convinced last year UDS wouldn’t stay 2m5f, but “proved” he does in France. Able to race prominently that day, settling fairly well when stamina was not a problem. Agree, 7/2 still looks excellent value on “form” – he’s the stand out best horse in the race – but price also needs to take in to account whether he’ll get the run of the race. There’s a few potential front/prominent running rivals in the Ryanair; am now a bit concerned won’t settle if unable to get a clear view of his fences and therefore might struggle to stay on up the hill. At this moment in time if hadn’t alredy got the 6/1 would be opposing UDS at 7/2.
I do also have 10/1 Empire Of Dirt so sitting pretty at the moment. Travelled relly well in the Irish Gold Cup to suggest will be equally effective back at this shorter trip. Despite being 10 seems to be on the upgrade and is one who could improve in to a top class racehorse.Value Is EverythingFebruary 28, 2017 at 22:34 #1289380Ginger, Empire of Dirt is the one horse I am most confident of for this years Festival.
Bad news TAPK, ivthough Hercules was a serious danger
March 1, 2017 at 01:32 #1289413I do think that Village Vic will head for the handicap, but they did say the same thing last year, and he still ended up in Ryanair. I suppose finishing down the field in last years renewal may have swayed them, but he wouldn’t have to go toe to toe with Vautour this time.
This.
March 2, 2017 at 09:32 #1289532The issue with Empire of Dirt is that he might run in the Gold Cup. He is around 50 on Betfair for the Gold Cup. So I reckon about a 1 in 3 chance he will go there and start at say 15/1. Best odds NRNB for the Ryanair of 5/1 look about right and better than 6/1 ante post. TimeForm like Sub Lieutenant and at the odds 12/1 seems worth a go.

Empire of dirt is confirmed for the ryanair
Someone asked if don poli or outlander missed the gc would they divert and he said possibly
March 3, 2017 at 00:35 #1289634I will say it again and keep on saying it JOSSIES HILL at 10/1 for this is a huge price.
Now he has his jumping sorted (much improved this year) his form has gone to a new level. This is his trip and only beaten seven lengths in the King George when he failed to stay IMO.
If UDS is to be beaten and to be honest the trip may well be a problem for him then this fella is the one to do it!!
March 3, 2017 at 17:18 #1289714Given how bullish Elliot was about Empire of Dirt being his best chance of a Gold Cup winner earlier this week, I am predicting they switch Outlander for this and send Empire of Dirt to the Gold Cup. Managed to get 130’s on Outlander.

At the media day his exact words regarding empire of dirt were “he is goes for the ryanair”
Take that however

You are not Gary O’Brien are you? Elliott was bullish about the Grand National. If it was down to him chances are the horse would never have made a Grade 1. Ridiculous that he is now sulking at the thought that he is going to win the Ryanair. Thankfully, Gigginstown own the horse, not Elliott.
March 3, 2017 at 17:54 #1289727Empire of dirt is made for this race, even if DP or outlander where ruled out id still think EOD would run here
March 10, 2017 at 15:09 #1290833Empire of dirt likely to be re routed to the gold cup now done poli is out.
March 10, 2017 at 15:14 #1290836Don Poli has been ruled out of the Gold Cup.
Gordon Elliott; “we may reshuffle the pack” EmpireOfDirt
