Too good for a Grade 1 race? If you are saying the QMCC and the CGC hold far greater prestige, i agree with you. Tidal Bay still has to prove he’s too good for Cheltenam Grade 1 yet mind.

To date the Ryanair has 2 potential winners in Tidal Bay and Noland wether they end up there, time will tell, though both are quoted at single figure prices to be victorious. They both also look like being 21/2m specialists to me! Of the 2 i favour Noland at this time as Tidal Bay could end up in the 2m Champion ch or 31/4m Gold Cup!

On Voy Por Ustedes’s defeat of Master Minded you would have to think that he’d have every chance of beating Tidal Bay, but it’s still not clear whether the Nicholls horse a) ran to form at Aintree, and b) hits a brick wall at some point between 16 and 20 furlongs. My guess would be that Master Minded was over the top following his exertions at Cheltenham and simply ran well below his best at Liverpool, thus making any literal interpretation of Voy Por Ustedes’s victory potentially misleading.

Master Minded hit a fence not a brick wall and looked to be winded. However, VPU was not far behind him at the time and stayed on well as he did the other day when he rattled the second last. He’ll get the 2m5f easily.

Lets not forget VPU won an Arkle and followed up in the CC the next year. Regardless of what people say that takes some doing and although Tidal Bay is obviously a very very good horse to dismiss VPU’s chances is daft, bordering on stupid. I also think noland will be a tough nut to crack over this distance and this could end up being the race of the festival.

The CC could end up being a walkover unless master minded disappoints prior to it – If he stuffs Tidal Bay I could see him going off at something stupid like 1/3 for the champion, which would be arklesque.

You are correct, and it is nice to see that view of Voy Por.

He is vastly under-rated by spectators (not the handicapper i may add).

That’s what makes Tidal Bay such a fascinating talent. He could end up in any one of three races at The Festval. He’s what I call ‘the key to the season’ because he could end up tackling all of the Big Three.

Connections have always said it will be a season for experimenting and Howard Johnson will take on Master Minded, Kauto Star and Denman without fear or hesitation.

He’ll meet MM at Sandown and I think, win or lose, he’ll go to Kempton to tackle KS. If all goes well with Denman’s recovery, I think they could meet at Aintree in the Betfair Bowl.

TB has an abundance of speed, but he’s always looked like a horse who needs two and a half and should have no problem staying three miles. His full brother, Whistling Straits, appears to be competitve over that distance (any info on this horse would be appreciated – according to RP online he has competed twice under rules).

I’ve always supported VPU, but I think he could be vulnerable this season against talented, progressive horses like Tidal Bay and Noland. Don’t underestimate VPU at Cheltenham, though. He reserves his best performances for the track and goes well towards the end of the season.

Mossbank is out for the season batman. Pity really, made rapid improvement last season and was only 4 lengths behind Denman in the Lexus.

There’s a young and upandcoming horse from across the water who could make them all go.

I don’t know the plans for my old favourite Thyne Again this season but I doubt if they will keep him at 2 miles with Master Minded and Tidal Bay around. If Tidal Bay were to beat Master mindd whn they meet the Ryanair route would be scrapped.

Thyne Again trotted up the other day over 2 miles in soft/heavy ground and his one run over 2m4f resulted in a emphatic victory over J’y Vole who had beaten him hands down over 2 miles.

Thyne Again looked a bit backward to me last season but at the same time was very impressive on several occassions. He never seemed to get home in the Arkle and that is a worry but I think we will see a stronger and better horse this season. 33/1 with Betfair is a huge about a horse William Hill make 12’s

Think they’re planning on running Thyne Again in the John Durkan Memorial at Punchestown over 2m4 next Fists. Could possibly be running into the likes of War Of Attrition and Noland so we should get a good idea where he stands.

Agree with you that he’s a horse to keep on the right side of. Definitely on the improve and was mightily impressive at Naas the last day. Looking back at the Arkle last year it looked like he was crying out for a step up in trip and it would be no surprise to see him line up as one of the favourites for the Ryanair come March.

Think they might take a chance with him in a few of the better 2m chases over here before Cheltenham though. The retirement of Nickname has really opened up the 2m division over here. Unless something like Clopf tomorrow at Clonmel, or a Big Zeb or Perce Rock in the next few weeks, comes out and shows massive improvement on what they achieved as novices, it might pay dividends to let him take his chance in races like the Paddy Power dialabet, the Normans Grove and the Tied Cottage where he’d be very hard to beat on heavy ground.

Cheers IC I’ll look out for that one. I suppose they will make Noland favourite but I think this fellow is a better horse in the making.

I particulary like how he relaxes in his races and unlike Noland he doesn’t seem to hit a flat spot. Noland might get away with that against lesser opposition but he won’t with this horse, as he also has an engine with a good bit of zip in it.

Be a great race to watch if it happens.

Noland has to be favourite for the Ryanair after today! Tidal Bay is no 2m
chaser now, but could still be a Gold Cup horse so he is no Ante-post proposition, i still think My way de Solzen could be the fly in the ointment
and i am looking forward to his return!

My idea off this race is VPU firstly his festival form is to a very high standerd also think the trip will suit the horse extra half mile will play into his strengths. Also he is down in grade so in theroy should find this easier then the QMCC last year and just feel this is the horses target and will run a very strong race.

Noland i feel the course dosent suit him as well as others and his jumping will be under a lot off pressure for this.Tidal bay a lot off hype about this horse but won a sub standerd Arkle chase and imo has to beat sum better rivals then he has for me wanting to back this fella (other then takeroc).Barbers shop would be intresting but feel trip will be to sharp and dont know if this is the horses intented target to be perfectly honest but a young improving chaser with solid festival form (second to fingeronhtepulse) feel it has a chance. But i will stick with VPU to prove the douters wrong and put sum over hyped horses back in there place come festival time

Noland has 15L to make up on his Arkle effort.

The Ryanair Chase, competed over 2m 5f, will be a completely different test, but does anyone believe that, where these two are concerned, 12 months and a extra five furlongs will make that much difference, bearing in mind that Tidal Bay is as good as ever and will be much better suited by the extra distance?

Noland’s breathing op will no doubt bring about some improvement (how much depends on the severity of the problem in the first place), but from what I saw in the John Durkan, Tidal Bay has nothing to fear from him on that running.

Voy Por Ustedes will be a tough nut to crack at his beloved Festival, but I’d be disappointed if TB didn’t have too many gears for him, around a track that plays to his strengths.

Originally, it was thought that we wouldnt see My Way De Solzen back until after Christmas unfortunately. However, GM states, he is declared to run tomorrow, which is a big suprise to me.
