With weight becoming too much of a problem for Joseph O’Brien, suspect he’ll be retiring at the end of this season. Wouldn’t be surprised if that win on George Vancouver secures Ryan Moore the job at Ballydoyle. With Dettori moving to Sir Michael Stoute.

When Joseph can’t do the weight on a three year old when racing against older horses in October (Camelot Arc); I’d say there’s a problem Cormack. Age is sure to make it harder to keep the weight off, so it’s a progressive issue. Is Aidan going to watch son Joseph put his health at risk? I’ve heard the talk in the weighing room is an announcement is imminent. Paddy Power haven’t yet (or last time I heard hadn’t) opened a book on next year’s Irish Flat Jockeys Championship because of whispers; probably more than whispers.
Value Is EverythingNovember 3, 2012 at 20:03 #419049I thought he was coping ok, although much less than 9st always going to be a problem. I’d suspect he has a year or two in him yet.
November 3, 2012 at 20:33 #419053Have you seen Joseph in the parade ring Cormack? Looks ill and some jump jockeys with his height have weight problems. Once out of his teens it’ll hit even more. Another year is possible though imo doubtful. Be surprised if it’s more than a year anyway.
Value Is EverythingNovember 3, 2012 at 20:39 #419055I think Dettori knew what was in the offing when going "freelance".
Value Is EverythingNovember 4, 2012 at 11:36 #419095It’s an interesting angle, the worried father. There must be health and psychological issues constantly keeping ones weight far below its natural level. There is a difference between the concern of an employer for a stable jockey and the worry of a parent.
November 4, 2012 at 14:32 #419126I think that some of the criticism of Joseph is overly harsh, but I am another who doesn’t rank him among the elite flat jockeys at the moment. You have to think that starving himself more radically will not help his overall riding standard.
Studies have shown that your decision making abilities and reaction times suffer dramatically when you are deprived of food.
November 6, 2012 at 22:51 #419330From all the references to Joseph in his racecourse interviews it seems like Aidan is grooming him to take over as assistant trainer when he can no longer make the weights.
November 7, 2012 at 11:44 #419349With Dettori moving to Sir Michael Stoute.
Why would Frankie want to move there, when his (Stoute’s) best days are well behind him and he has few runners in the big races?November 7, 2012 at 17:33 #419369With Dettori moving to Sir Michael Stoute.
Why would Frankie want to move there, when his (Stoute’s) best days are well behind him and he has few runners in the big races?I expect you said the same about Sir Henry Cecil Yeats.

Stoute has at least a couple of excellent 3 year old prospects for next year in Oaks filly Liber Nauticus and Derby colt Telescope. From what’s happened to SHC it’s ridiculous to be writing off SMS yet.
Dettori is a Newmarket man, wouldn’t need to move house or stop him getting good rides from people like Marco Botti, Jeremy Noseda etc. I’d have thought the job at Stoutey should suit Frankie down to the turf.
Value Is EverythingNovember 7, 2012 at 23:47 #419406I agree that its far too early to be writing off SMS.
I have a feeling though that Fallon may be angling after, and possibly be, in line to return. Thats an arrangement that I personally, will not be following.November 8, 2012 at 07:42 #419427I expect you said the same about Sir Henry Cecil Yeats.

You old rogue Gingertipster, I suspect you remember I predicted Cecil’s comeback

Why would Dettori sign for a stable which may or may not make a comeback? Surely he would base such a decision on fact and what is happening now.
He was based with a stable already in Newmarket and would probably still get better rides from them in the big races rather than Stoute.
He wants to be freelance not tied to a fading stable.November 8, 2012 at 12:56 #419444Yeats,
If Dettori had a contract with Stoute he’d have the pick of his best horses and more likely to be on Telescope, Nauticus etc on the big day. But there may well be an "understanding" (instead of a "contract") to ride most runners / when available.Value Is Everything - AuthorPosts
