Wayward Lad,
I’ll bear that in mind – I’m very new to writing and don’t always appreciate the nuances of using emoticons so I’m grateful for your assistance in learning what I should and shouldn’t do on here.
Now that I’ve raised a constructive point, any chance that you might consider dealing with that ?

February 25, 2007 at 12:56 #40483sometimes a jockey looks like they are hitting a horse when in fact they are waving the stick to urge the horse on…and in that ground I doubt Ruby would have hit the horse more than the he had to…saldy this seems true…Ruby should know better…
Edited to say I was reading the report on Natals win and there was nothing about it there, and turned the page and there is 1 line at the bottom of the page….I went to watch the re-run, but my silly pc wont let me!!
February 25, 2007 at 12:57 #40485Walsh was stood down for one day for excessive use
February 25, 2007 at 13:08 #40486I know which ride I’d prefer if I’d backed Walsh on Natal and Thornton on Falcons Gift.
February 25, 2007 at 14:07 #40489I can’t begin to imagine that anybody either on this Forum or who cares about racing in general would condone any form of action that would harm a horses wellbeing.
However, put simply we now live in a world of ‘image’ where content and facts i.e: Walsh being stood down for a day, are secondary. Bearing this in mind I ask the question, did Walsh’s riding of Natal do more potential good or harm to racing?
By the way this season’s NH Hands and Heels series has produced some execellent riding and exicting finishes.
February 25, 2007 at 14:57 #40491i agree the hands and heels races are excellent.
lets do away with the whip altogether would we really miss it?
February 25, 2007 at 16:04 #40493I wouldn’t miss the whip but I am talking as a spectator of horse racing. The important thing is whether the jockeys would miss it in respect of being able to steer and control a horse ( I understand that the jockeys in Sweden don’t use whips )
I’ve never ridden a horse so I don’t know the answer but perhaps some experienced riders on this forum could give their view?
February 25, 2007 at 16:19 #40496Thanks for more yet sympathetic replies, i do not wish to bring up the whip issue yet again……but..havn ridden over 500 races here over the sticks i cannot abide abuse…..and if anyone here thinks that his ride was not either he is talking out of his pocket or could not care less about the horse….i say wrongly or rightly he should of at least had 5 days and it should of been Cheltenham………….and i offer this ur in the gold cup….i bet……if his whip is as machine gun as his old mans mouth then god protect all horses……that should cause a stir…………lol

February 25, 2007 at 16:35 #40500What sort of reply is that drone or have you been down the pub
February 25, 2007 at 17:07 #40502I think the Irish jockeys on the whole take no prisoners if the race is there to be won.
Sometimes the end result justifies the means and there are instances like Adrian Maguires gold cup win on Cool Ground where it was over 3 years before the horse ever won a race again.
However horse racing will and has to be competitive so i dont think we will see the end of the aggresive whip style.
memo to wayward lad..lighten up mate !
February 25, 2007 at 17:27 #40504lol…all us armchair jockeys….My take on that race was that Natal was a reluctant winner. He put his head up, ears pricked not wanting to go on was my impression and looked a funny old character impervious to the whip. He was playing around with Walsh I thought so good effort to get him home.
As for being whip happy Mr Walsh’s ride in the 2.10 at Naas today disturbed me a little as he was so far in front on the run in on Heavenly Blues, [won by 18 lengths], yet he still managed to give it a backhander and ride to the finish. He knew how clear he was. Maybe this was his father’s instructions but from my vantage point it seemed a bit over the top and wonder if they do it for effect.
We moan if they don’t ride them out, and moan again when they do.
February 25, 2007 at 17:29 #40506memo to big mick..really do not need to.if i wish to express i will……or have i misunderstood the idea of forum and open expression
