There is an article on the RTV site where their expert pundits have named a horse to follow in the upcoming jumps season. Here are some of the gems they have recommended:

    Fran Berry: Energumene
    Rachel Casey: Kilcruit
    Jane Mangan: Bob Olinger
    Angus McNae: Bob Olinger
Ruby Walsh: Bob Olinger and Appreciate It

Well done. I could never have found any of those.

That’s what they are paid the big bucks for!

Big Bucks? Surprised none of them nominated him.

Haha, though to be fair some of the others have gone for more obscure choices. Makes you wonder if any of the selections had to be hastily revised from Monkfish!

“To be fair some of them have gone for more obscure choices.”

They have – and at least those pundits have tried to put us onto something which might win at a nice price.

The obvious choices are hardly ever going to start at odds against.

To pick something so obvious is a waste of time. It is a bit like a tennis commentator saying Novak Djokovic might be one to watch this year.

I agree. If the question had been to name which horses would be champions of their division then some of those names may well figure, but that is not the same as their being the most prime betting opportunities.

I am not really into horses to follow as you have to take each entry in each race on the merits and look at the opposition.

But the above is a particularly risible list.

The following is of equal value to the punter –

I think Honeysuckle has the potential to win a race or two. Just putting it out there.

Some really promising types highlighted in these posts. Lottery could be one for the National; you heard it here first.

The horses to follow tradition has become such an empty gesture. Surely our British experts could nominate something from this side of the Irish Sea.Although a fair reflection of Irish domination, I deplore the over emphasis on Irish prospects in some of the very good jumping annuals in recent times too.

Maybe Rachel Casey is wishing she had chosen something different now?
