I think this is a very weak year for the RSA. Brindisi Breeze would have walked all over them. Something should grind down Dynaste, but I am not sure what exactly.
Boston Bob is the most likely winner I suppose. I was impressed with him winning his last race. Unioniste is like a better-jumping version of his half-brother My Will and might lack a tiny bit of class.
I like
Hadrian’s Approach
even so. His jumping is a concern, but he ran well in the Feltham despite being better left-handed. Also might have beaten Unioniste without a horrible mistake at Newbury. Will appreciate a grind and he’ll do for me at 10/1.
March 7, 2013 at 20:50 #431605the more I think about this race the more I think boston bob is one of the bets of the meeting. if he’s within two lengths at the last, he wins simple as. even five lengths i’d fancy him to haul them back in up the hill. he’s the archetypal grinder made for this race.
and this is such a poor RSA field it’s hard to envisage him not being thereabouts at the final fence.

Dynaste now up to 5/1 on betfair for the RSA and down to 5/2 for the Jewson, does this almost confirm he’s going for the Jewson?

BB still available at 9/2 on Hills, think they’re NRMB now as well on this race

I don’t think they’ve made a decision yet but with the rain around and the going likely to be soft on the tuesday, it looks increasingly likely.
personally I think he’s worth taking on in either race.

I’d say he’s far more likely to start for the Jewson.
March 8, 2013 at 16:02 #431677We all have a picture in our head of the kind of horse that prevails in the RSA and the way that this horse goes about his victory.
In my head…the skipping, smooth travelling, twinkle-toes Dynaste does not fit that picture.
His run in last years World Hurdle tends to confirm this impression for me and I think connections have made the right call (if its the Jewson).March 8, 2013 at 18:43 #431687AnonymousInactive- Total Posts 764

Very glad I took the 4/1 on Dynaste for the Jewson a couple of days ago, almost at 2/1 now. Boston Bob also dropping in odds due to the likelihood of him not having to face Dynaste. Weirdly Captain Conan has now shortened to 7/2 for the Jewson after drifting out.

Don’t like the way Unioniste is getting backed! Especially with Ruby picking it!
Oh well come on Bob!!
March 13, 2013 at 13:28 #432454Boston Bob is the class horse in an otherwise average renewal. A Grade One winner as both a novice hurdler and chaser, he enters this contest as the one to beat.
The vibes haven’t been great, but he is sure to improve for the trip and has Festival form around the track.
Wasn’t overly convinced by Unioniste at Newbury and had Hadrian’s Approach jumped with great fluency the Paul Nicholls-trained horse would have almost certainly have met defeat.
The Newbury run-in has a habit of producing tight finishes when races appear at the mercy of a particular horse, but I don’t think a slog over three miles around here is what this horse needs right now.
Winning a hot handicap off a featherweight over two miles-five and trying to win an RSA over three miles is very different – all the more for a 5YO.
The one challenger that I think could go well at a decent price is Terminal. Clearly the stable second string – fairly obvious considering what Boston Bob has achieved – but he was pretty useful during a limited spell over timber and gives the impression of a very professional, uncomplicated individual.
He looks a sound jumper who will relish this type of slog and I’m hoping this workmanlike, no nonsense performer will show the necessary improvement to run into a place.
March 13, 2013 at 14:52 #432469Paul Nicholls runners are just not firing. Silviniaco Conti must be a big lay for the Gold Cup. I wonder if PN is going to draw a blank this year. I noticed that he has not even had runners in many of the races.
March 13, 2013 at 14:53 #432470Good win for Culloty – was on Goulanes myself but never mind, eh?
Unlucky for Boston Bob – looked well, but jumping is the name of the game.
Back In Focus would have pissed that, IMHO.

So don't run, just like the others always do
March 13, 2013 at 14:54 #432471And that’s why Townend hasn’t ridden a chase winner at Cheltenham in 20 attempts.
What was he doing at that last flight ?
March 13, 2013 at 14:58 #432474It was a strange race with the slow pace, then sprint starting down the hill. Boston Bob was obviously unlucky, but so too Hadrian’s Approach considering the way the race was run.

I agree, Townend made a serious error Mark.
Appeared to take his hand off the reins to slap the horse down the neck with his whip; despite hanging towards the rail. Horse must’ve thought he wanted to go through the rails!Value Is EverythingMarch 13, 2013 at 17:53 #432509Good win for Culloty – was on Goulanes myself but never mind, eh?

Really mate ?
Needed every yard of the 4 miler earlier in the day.

March 13, 2013 at 18:32 #432517Can’t believe that. Ruby Walsh should have been on board, much better horse than Unioniste and much better suited to a track like Cheltenham. Yea, upset. Should have been a Bob Back horse winning the RSA this year again. Roberto Goldback did exactly the same thing at the last fence in the Gold Cup at Punchestown a couple of years ago.
