I had one of those what the F*** feelings this morning when I sat down to compile my speed figures.

After the Lincoln meeting I looked at the results and the RP standard time for the Lincoln trip was 1m 38.5s on the straight mile, and I provisionally worked out that Brae Hill achieved a speed figure around 102.

In the space of two days The Racing Post has knocked off 1 second from their standard time for the straight mile and now have it at 1m 36.5s, this would expain why Penitent on Sunday only received a "Top Speed" figure of 63.

Looking at the Sporting Life the Lincoln’s winning time was 1m 36.37s and the Post has it at 1m 37.36s.

I have send an email to the Post asking them to check their standard times and I might get an answer in two weeks <!– s:shock: –><!– s:shock: –>

I might wake up from this nightmare or is it just another case of a bad hair day <!– s:shock: –><!– s:shock: –>

Edit: I see that the standard time changes have been applied to past results on the RP database.
I have the winning times for the past 2 years, some 28,000 races in an excel sheet and it shows that the standard time was 1m 38.5s on the straight mile.
Now I am getting really confused <!– s:roll: –><!– s:roll: –>

Blues brother………..the RP ‘update’ their standard times every now and then, usually at the end of the Flat turf season

I noticed a couple of years ago that the standard times for the AW had changed (I only do AW ratings)…….AND that the new standard time had been backdated to all previous results

I actually went back over a years meetings and re-did all the figures………..but I only did that once and I aint doing it again !

As it goes ‘My Ratings’ has now disappeared from the free service

Agreed, but standard times do not change 1 secs over a mile.
That is the reason why I have been recording the winning times etc for the past two years, just in case somthing like this happened. 8)

I have accepted that The Racing Post have made major changes to the standard times at Doncaster, and have updated my standard times list and lbs. per length.

I am used to times changing by a few tens of a second here and there, but when all of a sudden they change the 1 mile (straight) time and the 1 Mile (round) by one second, it does make me wary to say the least

It’d be good B if you could let us know what the RP say when they get back to you.

Dave Edwards is very unlikely to reply as I am too controversial for him, for example how can he alter a standard time by a second and keep the same lbs. per length figure i.e he uses 3.54 lbs. per per length for all 5 furlong distances.

The old adage at the Racing Post is, this is the way we have always done it

Maybe we should invite Dave on for a Q&A BB?

You are aware that Doncaster has two one-mile courses and that Penitent won on the round course not the straight mile?

Assuming SL & ATR are correct then the RP’s time for the Lincoln is wrong. They have transcribed 1.36.37 (SL&ATR) into 1.37.36 (RP).

This wouldn’t lead them to changing their standard though surely.

But they have been changed substantially if BB’s file of previous RP standards is correct.

straight was 1.38.5 now 1.37.4
round was 1.37.5 now 1.36.5

difficult to do a hand time on the Lincoln due to poor quality of the ATR video at the start, but would say 1m 37.36 of the RP is correct as the other time of the Sporting Life would be ridiculously quick imo

Your right Glenn, I did make that mistake by thinking Penitent ran on the Straight course so I have now altered my standard times list to show which is which.

Standard Times list: http://tinyurl.com/69fol76

The Racing Post never mention which course they ran on, and it is the same with Ascot, so when I checked on the Sporting Life website they did show that Pentient ran on the round course. 8)

straight was 1.38.5 now 1.37.4
round was 1.37.5 now 1.36.5

I have always wondered why the standard time on the round course is quicker than the straight course
