One of my favourite handicaps of the year.
I hope Blue For You runs and I have backed him at 28/1.
He won a competitive handicap at the Ebor meeting despite having a troubled run throughout the race.
I do not usually like making excuses for beaten horses but I do not think he has had the rub of the green since. He was blocked in his run at a vital stage in his next race at Ascot. While at York last month he was poorly drawn. The race developed away from him and he ran better than his finishing position suggests.
I assume he will run here and if he does he is overpriced on his best form. I think he is still potentially well handicapped.
It is a slight worry that he ran an indifferent race in the Balmoral Handicap when well fancied but maybe he had just had enough for the year.
June 6, 2023 at 22:37 #1650753I took a look at this and, once my “shortlist” exceeded a dozen, and seeing as going, draw and who makes the cut remain unknowns, I gave up.
4yos have a good record in the race since 1980 generally and especially in recent years.

Like Ian a look at the runners and I have a shortlist which extended into a longlist with Bless Him the stand out. I did part ways with a couple of quid at 33’s and will go in again nearer the time when things are a bit clearer
Each Way players maybe advised to wait until nearer the time for the extra placesGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
June 7, 2023 at 07:14 #1650767Another horse I like the chances of here is Perotto.
He moved to the care of Roger Varian and made his debut for the stable in the Victoria Cup. He was very well backed from something like 14/1 into 7/1, which suggests the Varian team think they have a well handicapped horse on their hands.
He ran OK but was probably not done any favours by the draw and was isolated from where the race developed.
He has won at the meeting before and I can see him going very well granted luck in running.
14/1 suggests the bookmakers are not taking any chances but I will still back him.
June 7, 2023 at 07:28 #1650768It’s a bit of a facile way of looking at it, but four-year-olds have won seven out the last eight runnings of this.

June 20, 2023 at 20:06 #1652382The 4yos are my 12 again the field.
Hope that helps.
It doesn’t?
Some 4yo Royal Hunt Cup factoids for your delectation….
– 4yos have won 28 out of the last 43 renewals, so since 1980 it’s been 4/6 a 4yo will win it.
– 4yos have won seven out of the last eight renewals, so more recently it’s become 1/7 that a 4yo will win it.
– 4yos have won the last three renewals, so it’s now actually “No Offers” a 4yo will win it.

Greatgadian.
I think he ran better than the bare result at Nottingham a couple of weeks ago. Young lad takes off 5lb. 50’s is well worth a go at 6/7 places each way. X
June 20, 2023 at 21:41 #1652401Happy with Perotto (14/1) and Blue For You (28/1) but I will have to add a 4yo. ID’s stat cannot be ignored.

June 21, 2023 at 08:33 #1652464My pin has landed on Perotto ew 6 places.
June 21, 2023 at 09:59 #1652474Based on the 4yo stat, added Sonny Liston (16/1) and Wanees (22/1). Both the right age and in first time headgear. Moore looks a very positive booking for the former.
June 21, 2023 at 10:28 #1652484Needless to say, I’ve got an extensive 4yo portfolio on the contest.
If anything that isn’t a 4yo wins, I’ll be sulking until….the next race!
