There was a horse running today at Chester 2:05 Passing Phase which had the jockey wearing royal blue silks but was owned by Mrs P.K. Cooper. Francesca Cumani said that the Coopers in Ireland are the original owners of the royal blue silks and when Godolphin run in Ireland they have to wear a dark blue trim on their colours. She was not sure what would have happened if Godolphin had had a runner in the same race today.

Is this true that 2 owners can have the same colours?

Must admit I had no idea of this fact until she said it and thought the same.

The more I know the less I understand.

In Japan they race in Blue with lighter blue armlets and yellow cap so must have clash up there too .
They also have a big spread of trainers up there .
I would guess only one set colours can be registered witb one jurisdiction and not replicated by another owner , the rights to certain colours go for decent money at auction . Colours i saw the other day but brain fade has got me were it was were identical to Peter Harris colours .
Also didnt Peter Johnson invert the Sangster colours when he had all those winners with Pipe in late 90s .

There was a Cooper runner from Ireland in the 2011 Oaks in a field which also included the Godolphin filly, Blue Bunting.

Her runner, Siren’s Gift, ran in a very dark blue with a pink sash and cap.

I suppose if one set of colours is registerd in Ireland, Coopers and one set is registered in Britain, Godolphin then there could be a clash.

But then I wonder why there are not more clashes.

By time my horse “Quite Unique” is running around the mid 2060’s there will be no jockey silks left
I’m going with Skins although male and female jockey will be allowed to wear the see through colourless bra if they so wish

“But then I wonder why there are not more clashes.”

Well there 20 different designs allowed for the body, 12 for the sleeves and 10 for the cap. So that’s 2,400 options for starters.

Add in a choice of 18 different colours, plus the ability to use one or two colours on each of the design parts, and the range is almost infinite.
