I thought I may aswell get this rolling as it has proved relatively popular over the last few days.
The Chesham is one of the races I look forward to, for no particular reason, and Double Attack looks well up to emulating the victory of stablemate Pearl Of Love some years ago. Bred to be effective over much further, this filly showed plenty of pace on debut to destroy one of Karl Burke’s (reportedly) best juveniles. The step up in trip and easy ground looks ideal, and she can beat Golan Knight under Joe Fanning (rode a brilliant race aboard Boscobel yesterday).
Scorpion was an impressive winner last time out at Epsom, and he will be high on any shortlist, but I can’t help feeling the forecast 16/1 about Mighty is a tad too big. He has always been well regarded by Jane Chapple-Hyam and acquitted himself extremely well on the all weather. Since the switch to turf he has run Maraahel to half a length and just been touched off in a Group 3 event by Take A Bow (an underrated horse for me). Through that run with Maraahel, who reopposes here, Mighty has plenty to find but I suspect he hasn’t finished improving yet.
The Golden Jubilee is about as difficult as it gets as far as I’m concerned, with the easing of the ground a major worry for Miss Andretti. Incredibly taking when winning the King’s Stand the give underfoot today may just take enough of an edge off her turn of speed to allow others to get into the race. Rising Shadow and Wi Dud are two against the field. The former is an habitual slow starter, but won well on his reappearance at Newcastle before running a screamer behind Amadeus Wolf at York. He was running on late that day, and was arguably unlucky not to challenge for the win. Wi Dud was a high class juvenile, pushing the likes of Enticing close, and boasts decent form behind Dutch Art. A promising return behind the improved Sierra Vista should have brought him on no end, and the return to 6f looks perfect.
When I first looked at the Wokingham it scared the punting hell out of me, until I spotted Knot In Wood at the foot of the weights. Richard Fahey’s charge has decent form with the aforementioned Rising Shadow and was never put into the race, won by Terentia, at York. He ran on takingly under minimal force and has the able assistance of Paul Hanagan today.
With Rayhani a doubtful starter, Cedar Mountain is selected to take the penultimate race of this year’s festival. Secret Ploy is the token choice for the finale.

Forget them!
June 22, 2007 at 23:48 #66252I’m certainly noting what you have selected looking at your previous festival form ;)
June 23, 2007 at 07:06 #66253Soft ground and big fields……. I’ll be treading very carefully today……. probably not playing at all.
June 23, 2007 at 10:24 #66254Wonder how soft it really will be? its sunny and breezy round here at the moment. Ascot drains well of course
Asset for me in the sprint. Although a slight doubt about the going, he haas that touch of class and his last victory has worked outr very well. Hes a big price
Golden Quest later. Have to go against the Channon horse just two days after the GC. Johnston seems very positive about GC in the weekender and his best form is up to this
The 5.00 is fascinating. Might side with cedar mountain. Stable is flying and if he imroves on just his fourth run, then that puts him right there

It didn’t frighten the punting b’jesus out of me.. and yep.. i’m insane..
June 23, 2007 at 11:20 #66257Scorpion looks unbeatable in the Hardwick but I think Akarem might run a big race and could be placed. Only 7 runners now though so it’s the place market on BF.
I’m going to go for Magnus in the Golden Jubilee. Has fairly good form on Sft going and could upset the favourite. Paddy Power are paying 4 places and also refunding the win stake if your horse is second to Miss Andretti so I’ll have a piece of that.

He’ll need a career best effort imo. Coronation Cup penalty means Maraahel is weighted to beat him on that running today.
Really like the look of Knot In Wood in the Wokingham. York run suggested he’s improved again, been kept lightly raced for this.
Borderlesscott looks overpriced at 25’s on betfair for the Golden Jubilee. Plenty of strong form in big fields and ready to step up on his first 2 starts this year.

June 23, 2007 at 11:37 #66260Yes DJ I agree about Borderlescott. I was at work when it ran last time and I think everyone in the shop agreed he was given an, umm, interesting ride as he managed to find trouble and then didn’t seem to be getting into overdrive when he was in the clear. Definitely worth an interest at 28s on betfair
