Any thoughts on the ride of this horse in the 5.40 at Redcar yesterday evening? Has anything come to light subsequent to the race?
September 25, 2008 at 12:24 #182235Eyecatching to say the least – and it wouldn’t be the first time you could say that about the way this particular horse has been ridden.
September 25, 2008 at 12:36 #182237It’s worth keeping an eye on the BHA site in the next day or two to see if something comes up on ‘Stewards Enquiries’ or ‘Why They Ran Badly’ sections.
The Racing UK team picked up on the effort pretty soon after the finish. The jockey appeared to use the bump the horse got a furlong or so out as an excuse to ease off. If the connections were seeking to ‘hide the horse’ I can’t see that they would have achieved much on this run.

September 25, 2008 at 13:14 #182240As TDK says, it isn’t the first time this horse has caught the eye. His qualifying run for a mark in a Doncaster 2-y-o maiden received the following entry in Timeform Perspective ‘caught the eye on his third run, which qualifies him for handicaps, held up and left with a lot to do before running on well under considerate handling; he should do better still.’
His run at Catterick on two starts ago commented ‘shouldn’t be written off just yet, dropped out from a wide draw and not knocked about.’
As I recall, the only race that he has won, was when he was punted off the boards.
September 25, 2008 at 15:26 #182252The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of ROYAL ACCLAMATION (IRE), ridden by S. De Sousa and trained by G.A. Harker, which finished seventh, beaten four lengths. They interviewed the Rider and Trainer. The Rider stated that he had received no instructions other than to win if he could because he had ridden the horse on previous occasions. He added that he was denied a clear run in the early stages and when the gap did finally appear inside the final furlong he suffered interference and felt his horse lose its action. Following an inspection post race, the Veterinary Officer reported the gelding to be lame. Having viewed the video recording of the race, the Stewards noted these explanations and took no further action.
