Interesting article by Greg Wood , food for thought imo

November 22, 2011 at 09:44 #379110I can’t comment on Paul Roy as Matron (and maybe other adults on here) is upset by my Anglo-saxon description of him and what my intentions are should I ever see him.
But (except for the thing we are not talking about) Greg Wood is spot on as always. Premiership racing is still an idea very much being kicked about as I understand it.
Perhaps PS will save us all and may become the new Chair when Roy is forced out – I can’t think of anyone else for the job…
November 22, 2011 at 09:48 #379112The trouble is that what the BHA (Jockey Club) would like to offer the public in terms of horse racing as a product is but a small part of what the bookmakers desire for their purpose. When done properly, the quality and diversity of horse racing offered in this country is second to none.
However, the bookmakers and their customers are not sustained by quality but by quantity. Since the bookmakers have shown themselves quite unwilling to support racing at a sustainable level and moreover, they have sought to avoid their duty as much as possible, whoever is installed to rake over the remnants of UK horse racing has a thankless task.Until the BHA identify the true villains and deal with them properly, the slow death will continue.
November 22, 2011 at 10:10 #379114well said Eclipse , Mr Bittar has a task and a half
Pete , Greg Wood was spot on regarding the whip as well , its the others that are the worry (maybe your good self included
)But overall his articles are very much to the point , in this one its plain Roy has to go and soon , BTW , NO CHANCE of PS EVER RETURNING, organisations do not work in that way , for good or bad he is out of the picture full stop

November 22, 2011 at 10:40 #379122An excellent article by Greg.
I’ve given up writing "Roy must go" – it will be getting tiresome for my reader.
November 22, 2011 at 11:36 #379134Does anyone have a link to anything that details where the Government of the United Kingdom have agreed to discussions on or have a plan to, introduce a legislative framework to form the basis of a commercial replacement for the existing levy?
Its kinda important give Mr Bittar’s comments on the radio the other night.

November 24, 2011 at 08:58 #379419Thanks, Zebra. Will have a wade through. This hit me on a fast scan through the British Bookmakers submission…
"As is well recognised, the initial rationale behind the statutory Levy was to introduce a compulsory payment by bookmakers to racing in order to compensate for the potential loss in gate receipts which, it was expected, would result from the legalisation of off course betting in Licensed Betting Offices (LBOs).
History does not record whether this loss actually took place or, if it did, to what extent. What is clear, however, is that racecourse attendances in recent years have reached record levels, despite the economic downturn, whilst off-course betting on horseracing in LBOs has declined. This could be characterised as a reversal of the position which led to the introduction of the current Levy in the first place."
You gotta love that logic.
