There’s a good article about Mad Moose today which got me thinking what other eccentric racehorses there’ve been . Vodkatini was the first that came to mind and I recently watched Arthur Stephenson’s Run Over at Donny on YOUtube.
I was never sure about Amrullah or Harchibald.
Any more ? There must be loads.

ChaninbarNovember 29, 2017 at 14:03 #1329374Towards the end of his career Battle Group became a total rogue. In just 12 months he went from hero by winning twice at the Aintree festival to villain by refusing to race in the big one. Retired soon after probably because he’d fallen out of love with the game.
November 29, 2017 at 15:19 #1329381Don’t remember him myself but I’ve heard stories of Ubedizzy, who if true, must be the most bonkers ever brought to a racecourse. If he’d been human he would be serving a life sentence.
November 29, 2017 at 15:53 #1329382Go West Young Man and Yourholidayisover two outstanding characters operating at the moment.

I seem to recall him resorting to biting other horses in a finish.November 29, 2017 at 17:16 #1329396In a Group 1 biting contest Marinsky would certainly come out on top.
Ubedizzy, who wore more headgear than Hannibal Lecter, was possessed by the Devil so he doesn’t really count.
Derring Rose wasn’t exactly the most reliable of conveyances.
November 29, 2017 at 17:19 #1329397Vincent O’Brien’s Marinsky is the one I remember most. Savaged Relkino in the 1977 Diomed Stakes at Epsom and had to wear a muzzle for the rest of his career, though I think he was eventually banned altogether
November 29, 2017 at 18:18 #1329407Labaik is a recent one – and on Moonax, yes, the girl that used to lead him round wore a special guard to protect her arm.
November 29, 2017 at 18:33 #1329409Moonax was just kinky

ChaninbarI’d be loath to describe some of them as rogues VTC, particularly Little Bay and Deanos Beeno who I would think were dream horses to own although slightly quirky. I’m sure Mad Moose’s owners loved him but he was a rogue and cost them money.
Always thought Jonjo made a meal of riding Little Bay, kicking his feet out of his irons etc. It looked quite straightforward when John Francome rode him, catch him winning the 1984 Red Rum on youtube. Ended his career by winning under 12st 6lbs as a 13 year old while Deanos continued until he was 12 and is still going strong aged 25 at Greatwood.

comes to mind for his refusal to race in the 2010 Grand National, more unreliable than a Rogue but he changed trainers soon after. The talented filly Sariska who became a nightmare for Jamie Spencer when she got in the habit of planting herself in the stalls and refusing to race.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 30, 2017 at 10:46 #1329489Pallasator..although he seems a reformed character since his relocation to Ireland.
