RIP sweetie.
The kindest, most charming gentleman of a Thoroughbred you could wish to meet

A lovely ride as well.
May you canter and graze in heavenly green pastures.

December 26, 2008 at 23:18 #199358You obviously knew him very well and must be feeling very empty and upset – so sad for you.
RIP
December 27, 2008 at 20:09 #199565Thanks TP.
In fact the Racing Post have greatly exaggerated reports of his death (in umpteen places!) and I am thrilled to confirm that he is in fact alive and well today!

So I am upset… but for a different reason now!

As far as I know, his jockey Ryan Mania HAS broken HIS leg, but that might be misreported too!
December 27, 2008 at 21:58 #199611Gosh! I am amazed … he took a real tumble and it looked instant curtains. So pleased for him and connections. Have the Racing Post sorted out their report? Usually it’s the other way round – RP is annoying in that horses’s fate’s are not followed up.

In their defence the information isn’t always passed on and there isn’t always time, when there are big fields for example and 30 minute gaps between races, to go out and get the info.
Sometimes it is "obvious" – i.e it is the knackers van rather than the ambulance that takes the horse away, this is at the courses where they have separate vans of course.
Oddly enough the best source of info tends to be the Judge often who gets to hear what has happened over the radio, but then again some are more forthcoming than others. There are a couple who will pop their heads into the press room to give updates.
However the situation is not helped by the fact the RP are increasingly doing their race analysis "off course" and they then rely on somebody oncourse calling them and letting know what has happened.

They haven’t changed their info re this particular horse … and now 24 hours have gone by …
