Would it be too harsh to suggest that Robert Thornton should be strung up, whipped and then quartered for his ride on Montbazon?

Yes. Only someone who was deaf, dumb and blinded by pocket fluff could think such a thing. Rough race. Best horse won, Thornton finished where he should.

Robert Thornton done nothing wrong, the winner was always going away at the finish.
You want to see a bad ride this week, PAUL HANAGAN ON DUCHESS DORA.
Evaded any enquiry from the BHA.
Suppose champion jockeys I.E MCCOY (Getmeoutofhere) and HANAGAN (Duchess Dora) are exempt from critism because they couldn’t surely be at it..could they? nah they couldnt because their "champions"

Rough race yes, but totally irrelevant. I’m not saying he should definitely have won but Thornton seemed (to my blind eyes, deaf ears and empty pockets) to be guilty of showboating in the latter stages when he should have been kicking on.

Indeed. Shades of Eddery on El Gran Señor?
April 9, 2011 at 19:42 #349502I can’t comment on the Montbazon ride but I think there have been several questionable efforts since he returned – falling off Invictus on the flat, a very strange, immobile effort on Oh Crick at the Cheltenham Festival and today it was hardly his finest hour on Bensalem. Rarely can a horse have been so disorganised and jumped a succession of fences so badly. He probably has a job for life with King but I suspect there are plenty of jockeys who could do just as well in that position.

It did look a very poor ride from Thornton who I think was a bit arrogant in trying to win so cleverly.
April 9, 2011 at 23:12 #349551He just got done by a very canny ride from Paul Carberry.
Carberry made sure he challenged on the outside of horses he knew he would pick up. He could see Choc who couldnt see him.
I think Montbazon is going to be a very decent horse but it wasnt to be today.

April 10, 2011 at 09:43 #349592Desperately harsh to blame Thornton,he was cajoling the horse and trying to kick on before steps to freedom went passed him whilst still on the bridle and as soon as Paul got serious he pulled away readily and could’ve won by more if he wanted! But i would say that because i was on the winner!
