Absolutely devastated to be reporting the loss of Robbers Glen today at Kelso. He and his truly veteran owner/trainer/rider Val Jackson were a familiar sight mainly in Scotland and the North of England where they always raced with enthusiasm. He took a heavy fall at the 6th but got up and can be seen standing with Val (and I assume vet) away from the fence as the field went past again. I was hoping he was just being examined but alas not. I am sure all who ever saw him and Val will never forget him. Deepest sympathy to Val on the loss of such a star, and I’m sure a good equine friend. RIP Robbers Glen.
March 21, 2011 at 21:08 #346623My heart goes out to Val, she must be ripped apart. She’s not just lost a horse, she’s lost a partner.
Such a cracking horse did not deserve an end like that, and nobody who is so close to a horse deserves to lose them like that.
RIP Robbers Glen, and thinking of you, Val. xx
March 21, 2011 at 21:31 #346629Indeed – I cannot begin to imagine how she felt following that fall and the realisation of what had happened …
March 21, 2011 at 21:37 #346631Then the empty lorry and the empty stable ……..
Utterly heartbreaking.
March 21, 2011 at 21:45 #346636Just don’t … you’ll set me off again …
March 22, 2011 at 15:04 #346750Would like to add my sympathies too, he was great local favourite and a number of racegoers stayed up in the stands to see if he made it, willing him on. They spent about 15 mins trying to save him until finally having to admit defeat. A very sad loss to all, especially Val.
March 22, 2011 at 19:14 #346796On a positive note for the old boy, I loved the way he stayed on from another country to beat Natian at Kelso, and stayed on so well up the hill at Cheltenham.
You couldn’t really wish for much more from a horse bought to PTP…. he’s the lifetime horse dreams are made of for the small owner/rider/trainer, and she can look back with pride at all they achieved.
What memories.
March 23, 2011 at 12:36 #346880Val adored this horse – as did anyone who saw him race. It is a tragic end for both Val and Robber but she gave him a fabulous life where he was loved right to the end.
