Former jockey Richard Fox has passed away age 57, having failed to fully regain consciousness after collapsing whilst shopping in Newmarket at the end of April.
A relatively young age to go in this day and age.
Condolences to his family.

Spoke to him a couple of times and he was a character.
Condolences to his family.
June 28, 2011 at 18:11 #362771Thats really sad news.
God rest him, and my sympathies go to his family.
He was a cracking lightweight jockey in his time.
Not sure whether my old memory is playing tricks but wasnt he associated with Elsworths Heighlin in his flat runs ?June 28, 2011 at 18:34 #362774He certainly rode Heighlin in most of his early flat runs for Elsworth, although Steve Cauthen got the ride once the horse progressed to Group races.
He also rode the first winner I owned on the flat, thirty years ago this month, scoring at Warwick and Bath on consecutive Saturdays.
He made race days great fun, seemed to take nothing seriously, but still got the job done. First time I met him at the stable over breakfast, he consumed two bacon butties and a mug of tea with two sugars – heaven knows how he managed to ride at 7st 7lbs.
RIP Richard,
AP

So is his wife, according to a funny article I read some time ago. I think it said she put him on her knees sometimes, and told the interviewing journalist something like, "He brings home the bacon for us, and he’s a big man in our eyes."
I’ve probably got it garbled, but that’s how I remember it. I remember he was top apprentice before turning pro.
June 28, 2011 at 20:38 #362794Very sad, very likeable character, I remember him having some very entertaining TV interviews. RIP
June 28, 2011 at 20:49 #362796Big big fan of ‘The Fox’ will always remember his C4 interview regarding his chances of the Mick Haynes filly
Kingsfold flame
at Kempton one day, basically saying exactly what he was going to do on her at what point during the race, where they will be positioned at certain points and when he was going to hit the front and win,he duly did it to the letter! Amazing stuff! RIP.
June 28, 2011 at 22:48 #362807Sad news.
In the days when big handicaps had bottom weights in the 7 stones … pounds, if connections couldn’t get Willie Carson they’d call Richard Fox.
Remember his infectous sense of humour. Such a big character in a small body. And if I remember right, a ginger too.
Value Is EverythingJune 29, 2011 at 15:08 #362863I remember him winning the Northumberland Plate in 89 on Orpheus for Guy Harwood. Sad news indeed, RIP.
