Only been watching National Hunt racing for 3 years or so and the first couple of years I didn’t really dabble into the Cheltenham festival handicaps as there was enough for me to bet on in the other races but this year I want to get stuck in. I basically am trying to find out whether each of the handicaps are won by a certain type of horse (e.g an unexposed frenchie for the Fred Winter or Coral Cup) or whether each year is different and it’s as ‘simple’ as finding the best handicapped horse in said race regardless of past recent trends.
Each year do you look for a certain ‘type’ of horse when trying to find the winner of the Pertemps etc? Or do you take each season as a clean slate?

Something progressive rather than a supposed handicap blot which has three 6s next to it’s name and hasn’t been seen on a racecourse in five months ( Ferdy Murphy is now in France… )
I like something which has shown steady progression with a 1 or 2 in it’s last three runs, not something that’s won three on the bounce or never placed. Those are often exposed to the handicapper or unexposed to a winning mentality.
