Delighted to see him win again; always remember him as one of Pipe’s Fantastic Four, that each ran about 18 times in the calendar year; also Django, Abbaya du Mathan, forget the other one. Tho I love to see horses run regularly, it did seem excessive at the time. He must be remarkably durable.

10 runs in 15 months(5 wins) under the Bewleys training.
Must think he is on holiday.
March 24, 2025 at 15:44 #1724772I was chatting to a friend of one of Red Happy’s owners at Kelso on Saturday. Word was that after his pulled up at Hexham in December George Bewley had decided to dispense with the tongue tie and blinkers that the horse had worn through most of his career. Seems to have worked a treat as that’s 3 on the trot sincehe did so. Helps having Jonathan Bewley as a rider, one who goes under the radar but is an excellent pilot for a steeplechaser.
One noticeable thing about Red Happy is that he is determined horse when he’s in the right frame of mind, and George Bewley seems to have achieved the latter regularly.
March 24, 2025 at 22:18 #1724791Apart from Al Roc who has been retired, the other three horses in this group have all continued to race frequently and gone on to further success after leaving Pipe. It is always nice to see these old favourites pop up.
I know individual horses differ, but it would be interesting to know how long the typical horse takes to get over a race. Running a horse over Jumps on consecutive days feels like a big ask to me, but perhaps running often between fairly short intervals is something a lot of horses could manage.
February 15, 2026 at 18:03 #1754905Does anyone know why Red Happy hasn’t run since last March?
