When I was a child in the early 70s my doctor, Dr Robertson was a huge old boy and sat in a swivelling wooden seat with a cigarette in the corner of his mouth. I can still see him now puffing smoke in my direction

The most unhealthy person I have ever seen was a GP. He used to drink whisky for breakfast and must have smoked about 100 a day.

Was there anywhere they didn’t smoke back then?

I cannot be downwind of a cigarette, not even outside.

Smokers are perfectly entitled to do it, but I have to walk away if anyone lights up anywhere near me.

Snooker and darts on the TV, darts players knocking back pints with Hurricane Higgins on the Scotch. All generally smoking.

I’ve occasionally hovered above this thread and briefly skimmed over the intetesting comments before shooting off like a fly investigating a fresh nugget of doggy doos.
Now I’ve landed, I’m quite enjoying this ****…

Expressions such as “fur baby”, “dog dad” and “cat mum” need to be added here. They are your pets, not your children.

And that is before we even consider the nightmarish birthing imagery they provoke.

“Surfacing” as in bringing an unknown detail to light, in the manner of a whale or perhaps a U-boat.

Is it really necessary to fire the people making these remarks into the sun? Some of them seem to be reasonably decent people outside work, which suggests to me it is the nature of work that is the problem.

    I’m afraid it is.

If examples aren’t made, it will never end – murder victims will be thanking their murderers “for reaching out to them” with their dying breath.

Since our company got bought out and we are now part of corporate concern we are having a team building day on Thursday, I am filled with dread, I can only imagine the bile I am going to be confronted with.

“team building day” = group of people who only interact with each other in the same building because they are being paid to – and will never, ever, speak to them again once they move on – forced to pretend to actually be friends with these people in an alternative environment (but at least they’re still being paid to do it).

Stupid thing is nearly all of us know each other maybe not collectively but you could argue we have already built a team, there is a good rapport. The powers that be are so out of touch but day out and a free lunch.

The more I know the less I understand.

    “He mis-spoke”

    No: he lied.

    “This speaks to the issue…”

No; this speaks of the issue. You speak to a person.
