If i listen to sports it be Talksport and 5live i love listening to Saggers on talksport like it when he goes on a rant.
Talksport extra time show with Russ Hargreaves is brilliant but sadly not on there now
On 5live for me is best show on the wireless that is World Football show with Dotun Adebayo
Tim Vickery and all there guests though my fave guest is Mina Rzouki a hidden gem she is should be on more radio shows.Way she describe Mourinhio and Rooney were spot on 2weeks ago.So Nath and other members you fans of shows i mention or any other shows you like
October 3, 2016 at 12:44 #1265520I’ll have talksport on in the background from 10pm each evening Daz for a couple of hours every night unless something is on the box or if I’ve got company of the opposite sex I might tune up a bit of love music, before drowning them with wine…….
Blackbeard to conquer the World
October 4, 2016 at 14:28 #1265616Nath you hear the two mikes at 1am if not you should mate funniest duo on the radio also do a podcast if you miss it to so mad but funny they are
October 5, 2016 at 09:31 #1265691I’m usually in bed by 1am Daz
Is that Mike Parry….?Blackbeard to conquer the World
October 5, 2016 at 20:39 #1265738I’m rather partial to the Shipping Forecast on BBC Radio 4.
The mellifluous tones of whoever reads the forecast, and the names of the regions themselves, bear favourable comparison to anything written or spoken by Byron, Keats, or Shelley. Or Pam Ayres I suppose.
Indeed the line, ‘Rockall, Malin, Hebrides, Bailey’ has only one rival in the pantheon of English poetry, and that is ‘Humber, Thames, Dover, Wight, Portland’. Long may this programme continue to prosper.
It helps ships as well.
October 6, 2016 at 10:52 #1265784Like the themes of Desert Island Discs and Dads Army, the Shipping Forecast does reassure and comfort: something timeless and unchanging to cling to in uncertain times…blah blah
The iPlayer has been a godsend to we radiophiles: listen when you like, as many times as you like
Favourites in no particular order are:
Sounds of the Sixties – R2
Henry Ayrton’s Jukebox – R Humberside
Vintage Vinyl – R Tees
Clare Teal – R2
Jazz Record Requests – R3
Paul Jones – R2
Composer of the Week R3
Essential Classics – R3
Desert Island Discs – R4
Geoff Barker’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Party – R Devon
Radio Paradise – thanks to TRF’s Matron for alerting me to this
Dave Gamblen’s Cruisin’ – Angel Radio, live only, Sunday 1730, be there or be squareOctober 6, 2016 at 15:12 #1265808Radio 6 for me. However, there’s a lot of comedy on the radio that I seem to miss.
October 6, 2016 at 18:22 #1265828What comedy you miss then Moe
Nath yes it is Mike Parry
Heard shipping forecast a few times i never did understand it not a ship fan myself
October 7, 2016 at 17:12 #1266004Quite a range for me
Radio 4.
Today programme is unparralled. Also love Loose ends, Saturday review and Front row. Saturdays on r4 are
excellent.R4 is usually the defaultRadio 3 is excellent across the board. Live from wigmore hall is a gem. I never listen to r2
Jazz fm is good at times but recently changed format to a little too mainstream. Classic fm is dull but ok to doze off to
Solar fm is a wonderful soul jazz funk station. run by people who genuinely love the music. The beauty of this station is that it is the right mix of enthusiasm and professionalism. Djs play what they want and there are niches for everything from gospel to house. fabulous
I listen to a few amercian jazz stations too especially the superb KCSM.
Radio 5 is very mixed. Danny baker is a class apart, the most talented broadcaster of them all, but too must news and peresentaion is seemingly aimed at northern students. The sport is decent but a lot of the rest is irritating and smug
i cant bear talksport. its like being stuck in a pub with the bore who turns every conversation round to football
bbc radio london Robert elms is a fine show. Surprisngly Vanessa feltz is engaging too
October 17, 2016 at 12:51 #1267574Five Live for news but I hit the “off” button as soon as any phone-in starts, likewise any football coverage and it’s straight off.
I did enjoy Five Live Sport’s Extra’s Friday afternoon racing coverage earlier in the year.
For driving on a long journey it tends to be Classic FM.
I enjoy Paul O’Grady on Radio Two but prefer the show even more when Len Goodman sits in for him.
Will occasionally have Radio 4 Six O’Clock News on a Saturday or Sunday evening if driving home from somewhere – the only place you can get decent radio news that time on a weekend.I also agree re the Shipping Forecast comments – sheer poetry.
Finally Test Match Special – I very rarely watch a test match on TV but to listen to TMS is absolutely sublime – even if rain has stopped play they manage to keep you captivated.
October 18, 2016 at 06:47 #1267677Iggy Pop – BBC Radio 6 Music – Fridays at 7pm
Usually discover some good music on there.Off The Ball (Sports show) – Newstalk 106
Willing to tackle controversial areas of sport. Presenters knowledgeable.Howard Stern Show – SiriusXM Satellite Radio
His ability to get guests to open up, over the extended one hour plus interviews he does is unparalleled. Love the guy.October 18, 2016 at 08:35 #1267678106 Breakfast,
A new Chinese tea is to be released with up to 12% alcohol. LOL
October 21, 2016 at 14:07 #1267970paul.. time we caught up at ascot?
I am a huge cricket fan but a little indifferent about TMS. A couple of the team are well past sell by or think they are comedians when frankly they are not
Football phone ins are shocking.
Right about the news but why is there no rolling news station ? R5 certainly doesnt fit the bill

Hi Clive – not sure when I’ll next be at Ascot, I’ve switched jobs so will only get to work at Ascot as “overtime” in future and not every meeting like I did until the end of September and to be honest overtime doesn’t really interest me, the only time I would have considered it was the Royal meeting but as I’m working nights for three of the five days of the meeting next year I’ll be giving it a miss.
So I’ll only probably get there as a punter in future and that will depend on my shift pattern. I’ll send you a message next time I’m going, it probably won’t be until well into the New Year as I’m just starting a three month training course!!!
I have to admit I like the TMS team, even the comedians – for me that’s what makes it so good – it’s like listening to your mates chatting about anything and everything, as well as the cricket.
Totally agree re Five Live, it’s more of a sports station with news. Maybe when radio goes fully digital they will have separate rolling news and sports stations? A rolling radio news channel would be great – LBC is the nearest we have but that relies far too much on phone-ins. I have to admit for most of the time I’m at home the TV stays on the BBC News Channel.
November 11, 2016 at 15:17 #1271934Test Match Special is the only thing I listen to on the Radio since John Peel died.

When poring over your Race Passes and Table-of-Odds-and-Chances do you work in silence Ginger?
I always have music on, which seems to concentrate the mind; but never chatter or TV, which wanders the mind
Winter evenings with the curtains drawn at 1600hrs is a boon too
November 12, 2016 at 21:14 #1272339” Playing music in the operating theatre can be disruptive and surgeons should think twice about pressing the play button, according to a small study….
..Music was played in 16 of the 20 observed operations.”
