Seriously mansun, a bit of growing up really wouldn’t hurt.
If you read back what you said when giving a brief overview of the race, you’ll see where the confusion lies. To quote:
"…Gay Future was the horse…three horses entered in the race…only one ran…"
That says that Gay Future was the controversial horse, and that he won a race which was supposed to have three runners but only ended up with one. As such, it doesn’t make sense.
Had you said ‘trainer x had entered three horses…’ then there would be no issue.
Just think about what you’re trying to say and…well…say it better!

Running Rein – disqualified for being a "ringer"
The horse was actually 4 year old colt, Maccabeus.
Oh, those dodgy Victorians.

January 15, 2008 at 19:04 #135448Don’t be soft, Mikky, I just need to include one or two more details next time…
January 15, 2008 at 19:08 #135450What age is Tony now, he must be getting on. Pretty sure this is his house.
January 15, 2008 at 19:09 #135451I didn’t know about the race so a wrong assumtion there. I can only assume Mansun is seeing how long (perhaps for a bet?) it takes him to be asked to leave this forum too. Are you for real? I’ve come accross some ‘in yer face’ types before but flippin’ heck
January 15, 2008 at 19:13 #1354543 horses entered in the race. Only one ran. Hosed up.
No, the three horses were entered in different races at different meetings. Ankerwyke and Opera Cloak were declared non-runners in their races reportedly due to ‘a horsebox break-down’ but they never left the yard. One was entered at Southwell and one at Plumpton.
Gay Future won on merit, even if the connections went to inordinate lengths to cover up that merit. I believe that the horse was disqualified because it hadn’t been kept at Collins’ stable for the required length of time.

January 15, 2008 at 19:17 #135456high chapparell keeping the champion stakes , when blatantly coming across falbrev at leopardstown.
if that race had been run in any other country falbrev would have got the result in the stewards room, cost me a packet , one of the longest enquiries i have had to sit out.January 15, 2008 at 19:27 #135463!956.. Wasn’t born till 1972… Didn’t take any interest in racing till 1993 so couldn’t comment on that particular race. Contraversial races….First new member to a ton… I think you won by a distance causing some contraversy whilst in running
January 15, 2008 at 19:30 #135465The Dewhurst of the late 70’s/early 80’s – the super horse beaten by a maiden, finished last of 4 having destroyed everything on all his other starts. The RP did something on it a few months ago.

The colt was Gorytus, and nobody ever got to the bottom of the mystery, though I believe rider Willie Carson did recently express a view that maybe the animal was just very quirky.

January 15, 2008 at 19:54 #135489There have been many controversial races.
Paul Nicholls always maintained that Playschool was doped in the Gold Cup when he was riding it.
Brownes Gazette being left at the start of the Champion Hurdle however Dermot Browne did I believe own up to doing it on purpose for some syndicate.
Graham Bradley trying to get a Gold Cup postponed at the start for betting reasons when it was snowing. Sorry I am to old to recall the years

Possibly.
Brownes Gazette being left at the start of the Champion Hurdle however Dermot Browne did I believe own up to doing it on purpose for some syndicate.
Dermot Browne was involved in doping, but he was also a good story teller and I if his misplaced ego’s at work in this story.

An apochryphal story?

January 15, 2008 at 21:52 #135540The Derby in 1836 was a little controversial as Lord Bentinck came to a "gentleman’s" agreement with his mate Lord Jersey that Bentinck wouldn’t run Elis in the race that year thereby ensuring that Jersey’s horse Bay Middleton had little or no competition on the day. Jersey of course returned the favour by not running Bay Middleton in the St Leger!
The St Leger then provided further controversy in 1836 when Bentinck entered Elis but couldn’t get on antepost at the prices he wanted so he kept Elis at home until the horse couldn’t possibly get to the track from his stables in time for the race (this in the day when horses were ridden to the track).
The bookies then pushed the price out to 12/1 (antepost) which was snapped up by Bentinck’s cohorts. Smelling a rat, the bookies slashed the price and Bentinck couldn’t get on at that price. So of course he threatened to pull the horse out unless his mates laid him some of the 12s back.
And as the history books show, Elis turned up fresh as a daisy on the day having been transported to Doncaster in the first ever horsebox and promptly won.
Rumours that Barney Curley can trace his lineage back to good Lord are unfounded!
January 15, 2008 at 22:05 #135546I am wary of speaking about contraversial races. It’s ok talking about Gay Future everyone who was old enough to bet knows the full story.
However the most contraversial race that springs to mind for me was The Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham a few years back. Royal Vulgan subject of one of the biggest gambles ever at Cheltenham got the worst rides in the history of racing from John Francome. He apparantly apologised to the owner then gave it an even worse ride at Aintree………..the rest I will leave to the opinions of others as I wouldn’t be as bold as to repeat what I was told on more than one occasion.
