The RP are asking for views on their new website. (Home page).
It costs nothing, asks pertinent questions, takes only a couple of minutes to complete, and might just lead to them actually revising some of the recent changes given the right response.
If you care at all about the future of their website, please try to find time give them your views.
Thanks
RHJanuary 10, 2009 at 05:51 #202897Yea good point reet hard. Just completed the survey, it only takes a few minutes and is well worth giving them the necessary feed back on the new site.
January 10, 2009 at 06:05 #202899I don’t actually care anymore. I’ve got used to not using it.
January 10, 2009 at 15:22 #202921I was mainly using the Sportinglife site but a few time I discoverd some horse’s form was incomplete, especially where horses had run in France…Yeats for example.
I was just getting used to the old site which was easy to understand, when they changed it. Bummer!
However nothing remains the same and noway should they go back.
Survey is a great idea as the things that are annoying the majority of users will come to light and no doubt will be fixed.
January 10, 2009 at 15:27 #202923The only way to fix the issue is to go back to the racingpost.co.uk site of old. It Worked! They have wasted a fortune developing a new site that no-one wanted.
January 10, 2009 at 15:36 #202924I just tried to do the suryey – it said "this survey is currently closed"
January 10, 2009 at 15:53 #202932Nobody likes change and it was the same here when this site changed – anyone remember the toys exiting the prams then?
It’ll evolve and people will get used to it – just like racing on surfaces other than grass….
January 10, 2009 at 16:05 #202935You just can’t help yourself Simon…. The new site is complete and utter rubbish, low class, and probably now viewed by about 50 people on a Wednesday night… sound familiar?
January 10, 2009 at 16:17 #20293650 people at the course and hundreds of thousands at home and in the bookies and pubs – that’s better than being abandoned
January 10, 2009 at 16:18 #20293850 people at the course and hundreds of thousands at home and in the bookies and pubs – that’s better than being abandoned
Hundreds of thousands – come off it Simon!!!
January 10, 2009 at 16:33 #202940Hundreds of thousands – come off it Simon!!!
Nearly 9,000 betting shops in the UK, over 45,000 subscribers to RUK and more able to watch ATR, thousands of pubs showing racing, gamblers watching live web feeds, etc…
January 10, 2009 at 16:43 #202946Hundreds of thousands – come off it Simon!!!
Nearly 9,000 betting shops in the UK, over 45,000 subscribers to RUK and more able to watch ATR, thousands of pubs showing racing, gamblers watching live web feeds, etc…
On a Wednesday afternoon, for example, how many of those 9,000 betting shops would just have one sad old man and his dog, or a handful of of habitual gamblers making a massive contribution to the levy with their 50p each way bets? I walked past my local Laddies just before 2:30 yesterday afternoon, and this is a flagship store, there were two punters and three staff in there.
What percentage of RUK subscribers do you think would be watching AW racing on a Wednesday afternoon? Similarly with ATR?
As for the pubs just because a pub is showing the racing does not mean it is being watched – a turf race will attract more viewers than a run of the mill AW race.
January 10, 2009 at 18:19 #202971Well I thought I would complete the survey but it is no longer on the home page, or so well hidden I can’t find it.
Maybe the response was so negative they decided to end it prematurely.
While the assumption that change needs to get used to is true, it does not apply to this recarnation of the RP website.
It is obvious that the team given the job of designing and building the site do not know that much about horse racing (or site building).
It also seems that the management team at the RP responsible for overseeing its developement have no knowledge on using a web site else they would have spotted some of the gaffs.
One simple thing which has nothing to do with horse racing but demonstrates the ineptness is that on any other web site clicking the back button takes you to the page you previously viewed, but with the RP site it’s like a magical mystery tour, you are never sure where you will go though generally it’s right back to the beginning.
The RP site whose main business is providing horse racing information is no better or even worse than some horse racing sites that are just an add on to the main business of betting or providing TV coverage.
January 10, 2009 at 18:39 #202981It’s still not bad for free though
January 10, 2009 at 18:48 #202986I received an email from the RP a week or so ago, asking for my views on the new site, to which I responded in a civilised but trenchant manner.
January 10, 2009 at 18:51 #202988It’s still not bad for free though
Not sure for how much longer though?
There was quite a lively discussion about the site in one of the press rooms the other day and one of the RP journo’s said the RP are still adamant they are going to start charging for it very soon and he thinks it most unlikely they will change their mind.
It will be interesting to see what happens when they do, although the general consensus was the vast majority would not pay as the information was freely available elsewhere.
January 11, 2009 at 01:05 #203082Despite the fact that I have an internet connection right underneath my TV I strangely still prefer to buy a paper and find that I generally bet better. Ergo i’m not overly bothered.. I don’t think it’s as bad as people say though.
