Mine plopped on the mat this morning.Question 30. asks :"Do you have any suggestions as to how to improve the coverage……………"
They provide a space of a medium paragraph for your answer. I’ve attached an A4 piece with my suggestions.
Can I urge all on here to get stuck in.

May 5, 2009 at 14:50 #225763I get RUK via my Setanta subscription and I don’t exist as far as RUK are concerned. I get no correspondence, tickets or anything else from the channel. If Setanta go belly up (looking likely), I won’t be renewing my RUK subscription.
Showing replays of the previous days racing all morning on the morning of the 2000 Guineas just about sums up the channel IMO.
Also, on a day like Saturday, why can they not make a separate feed available (via the red button or whatever) which contains only the races from the main meeting of the day. Very frustrating to tune in to watch a Guineas build-up only to have to suffer 2 races from Thirsk & Goodwood.
I applaud their website’s free replays for 1 week but I feel if you subscribe to the channel then why can’t the replays be free all the time. It can’t be that expensive.
May 5, 2009 at 16:11 #225777Does anyone know what will happen to RUK if Setanta folds?
May 5, 2009 at 16:46 #225781Different strokes for different folks.
As far as I’m concerned, RUK provides a good service. It beats ATR in every department, with quality presenters and analysts [Luck, Hislop, Mellish, Fremantle, Cunningham, Willoughby, Neesom, Hoiles to name just 8], most of the best meetings, and NO adverts.
I’m not especially interested in hearing ex-jockeys bluff their way through preview programmes (as Harvey and Fitzgerald do on ATR between 11am and 1pm), and interviews with trainers leave me cold.
50p a day for RUK seems a small price to pay.
May 5, 2009 at 16:48 #225782Perhaps sheik mohammed will buy it over? (slightly tongue in cheek) but you never know.
May 5, 2009 at 17:34 #225801"…………………………..NO adverts. ………………"?????
Have you not been watching lately?
Colin
May 5, 2009 at 17:43 #225804Aye, there may be the odd ad for a bookmaker, you’re right.
But none of the loan sharks, lottery scratchcards, fast-food outlets, driving schools, insurance pedlars and ambulance chasers we’re force-fed throughout the day on ATR.
And I’ve yet to see RUK miss the start of a race because of an advert.
May 5, 2009 at 18:04 #225806I’m not defending ATR in any way, gumshield.

May 5, 2009 at 20:39 #225836I didn’t realise Setanta was about to disappear – what is the situation?
May 5, 2009 at 21:16 #225838RUK’s problem is apart from the live action and the endless replays there is very little else. Recently we had a "form" programme with Steve Mellish and James Willoughby and Mark Your Card is a recent addition both positives but it needs more.

Thanks, no doubt Sky are painting the worse scenario. For the sake of competition I hope they survive.
May 6, 2009 at 00:33 #225870I think Setanta did not do their homework and their business model was seriously flawed. They certainly seem to have overbid for the Scottish package, which is why they are desparately trying to re-negotiate now.
The situation has now been made worse by them now losing one of the key football packages, making the proposition even less attractive for subscribers.
Not to mention the well documented problems they have had with customer service, which based on my recent dealings with them, still have much to be desired.
Despite their faults it would be a pity if they went under as Sky need to have competition and strong competition at that.
May 6, 2009 at 00:46 #225872Setanta did overbid for scottish football as essentially they are banking on rangers and celtic fans buying subscription as matches involving those teams are the only games shown live. I dont know many people other than old firm fans who subscribe…why would you? I am an Aberdeen fan and I’d be lucky if my side played live on setanta 5 times in a season…every one against the old firm.
For those who have Racing UK via Setanta there must be some agreement between Setanta and Racing UK or Racing UK would be short changing themselves as monthly subscription to Setanta is less than Racing UK (I think).
May 6, 2009 at 01:17 #225884Also, on a day like Saturday, why can they not make a separate feed available (via the red button or whatever) which contains only the races from the main meeting of the day. Very frustrating to tune in to watch a Guineas build-up only to have to suffer 2 races from Thirsk & Goodwood.
.I’ve suggested on the survey that their idea of introducng a Red Button facility would be most usefully deployed as a means of avoiding split screens and clashes with big race build-ups
Also told them I’d be quite happy to pay 19.99 pm as a standalone channel with the proviso they get rid of all advertising and guff from the sponsoring bookie’s rep and fund their venture with the accrued subs alone
And on the numerous days when they have only a single meeting to broadcast can they please ensure they allow enough time before a race to allow comprehensive picures of the horses parading and going to post, rather than filling that time with replays of earlier races followed by a fleeting betting show and a ‘they’re about to line up so your brief thoughts please Jonathan’
