Racing UK is increasing it’s subscription costs from March and launching HD on Sky only
January 20, 2016 at 19:09 #1230149Well, just over £4 in 12 twelve years isn’t a bad increase. Shame Sky can’t manage to do the same.
January 20, 2016 at 23:38 #1230174Been having some problems with my Virgin Media TV Service (constant missing channels, pixellation etc) and have been looking at the alternatives
Unfortunately neither RUK nor ATR appear to be on the BT television service…….it looks as though subscribing to the two channels to view online would be feasible but would cost about £35 a month……..if I’m reading it right RUK is around £25 per month for an online subscription and ATR is about £10
That’s more than I’m paying now to watch them on TV………which strikes me as being ridiculous

That would be dependent on it being the correct price in the first place. Personally I think it should be free to air to get as many viewers as possible. This was put forward when it started but not allowed by the BHA.

How would the racecourses recoup the money they would lose by making it free to air? Given the continuing wrangling over the levy British racing needs to be developing income streams out with the British betting industry.

Well the racecourses were happy it with it at the time, think it involved sponsorship by Betfair. The details will be out there somewhere, you’ll have to ask the BHA for their reasoning for being against it.
Don’t forget RUK was a lot cheaper when it was part of the Setanta package 7 years ago, so to say it’s only gone up £4 in 12 years is econimical with truth to say the least.

It was ‘free’ on Virgin cable if you had the Sky Sports package…….all the Setanta channels were added at no extra cost somewhere along the line
