The porridge is very thin on RUK next week.
All I’m seeing on their schedule page for the next six days including today are three live meetings and one hour of original content “The Verdict”. All in glorious SD if your a customer of Virgin Media.
Considering you get umpteen HD channels filled with original content for 40 quid on Sky Sports, who pay billions for football rights, you’d wonder how RUK justify 28 quid for the meager rations they offer up?
Had it switched on for a month over Christmas, its going off again next week.
January 8, 2017 at 12:51 #1280788Couldn’t agree more, Cav. RUK is a total rip-off at its current price. If it were a tenner a month I’d consider it, but only once their much-vaunted “glorious HD” becomes available to those of us on Virgin Media.
January 8, 2017 at 15:13 #1280828When is it going HD on Virgin ? One of the annoying things is that you pay top dollar for RUK yet only get SD, it’s the same with Box Nation and Sky PPV too
January 8, 2017 at 15:35 #1280833no way paying over £300 a year for it!
January 8, 2017 at 16:05 #1280840We sponsor the week – don’t have to be on track until Thursday at Catterick..
January 8, 2017 at 16:24 #1280847meanwhile, in a parallel universe where the organiser of the racing also organises the betting on it:
Two new functions – “Live Racing” and “Horse Selector” – will be added to the Racing Touch mobile app from tomorrow, 8 January, providing customers with an enhanced way to enjoy live racing as well as to select horses interactively.
The “Live Racing” function is currently only available to priority card holders via the HKJC TV app and the 3-in-1 classic Mobile Betting Service app, allowing them to watch live racing programmes on their mobile devices.
Starting from 8 January, Racing Touch will add “Live Racing” function, being the first and only app to provide this free service for all betting account holders*. Apart from a full screen feature, it also includes picture-in-picture, which allows users to drag the frame to any position on the screen so that they can watch live racing and browse other information at the same time. The Club will closely monitor demand for this service and will increase capacity accordingly.
“Horse Selector” provides an easy way to pick horses. First the customer selects two to six criteria out of nine that are important for them in selecting horses. Second they specify the number of horses they want to select. Horses which best meet these criteria will then be displayed. “Horse Selector” reduces time spent analysing past performance and running positions as well the hassle of shuffling a multitude of racing data.
The latest version of Racing Touch** will be launched tomorrow. Android users and iPad users can download it free of charge from racingtouch.hkjc.com and App Store respectively. For more information, please visit racingtouch.hkjc.com or call the Club’s Hotline at 1817.
* Customers must be aged 18 or above
** Mobile device running Android OS 4 or iOS 7 or abovJanuary 8, 2017 at 17:41 #1280869RUK could easily do that, Wit.
They just don’t want to.
January 8, 2017 at 18:37 #1280879I can afford it but as stated above, it’s far too expensive unless you really are going to watch it every bloody day. And even then
It’s four times the price of Netflix
The accountants are running (ruining?) this product. They should be trying to grab an audience rather than close it off
January 9, 2017 at 11:42 #1280961RUK has no business being the single most expensive channel on UK Cable or Satellite.
They seem to be content with around the 50,000 subscriber mark and that’s it. They appear not to be in the business of increasing the audience for racing and was initially set up as a “Any channel but a revamped ATR” back in 2004.
The only time it was worth in excess of £20 a month was when it was bundled in with Setanta Sports pack back in the mid 2000’s. They might offer free race days for subscribers but thats only good if you live near a course or are able to take time off work.
It should be no more then £10 / £15 a month max. Or they could do what the old racing channel used to do years ago and that was offer a weekend only service to subscribe to, for around £5 a month.
January 9, 2017 at 11:58 #1280966The next five days on RUK have ten and half hours of new content, according to their schedule.
Less than 9% of their total on-air time.
January 9, 2017 at 17:32 #1281046Apparently have added Cagnes tomorrow (Tuesday)
January 9, 2017 at 19:17 #1281092Since when as Cagnes been in the UK.
I despair. My subscription is going.January 9, 2017 at 21:26 #1281112Apparently have added Cagnes tomorrow (Tuesday)
That’s alright then. Nice bit of pocket money for Claude.
January 10, 2017 at 10:41 #1281194What happened to Leicester, Stratford and Taunton swapping to Racing UK?
August 25, 2017 at 11:52 #1315506Value of the day has to be RUK’s annual subscription offer, valid until midnight tonight only. Annual subscription reduced to £10 a month in the UK, or 12.50 a month for those of us trading in the hapless Euro.
Top offer, well done to them. I’m back on board.
